Die Hard 2: Die Harder
🕑 Added 2024-03-11 04:00:05 +0000 UTCIn our first of two McTiernan-related bonus eps Griffin, David and Ben discuss Die Hard but at an airport this time with Die Hard 2 (or as some people like to call it Die Harder). Topics include: Is it Die Harder?, missing McTiernan, and a very special Dauphin-Addendum.

I love the outro music is trying to end the episode because Griffin’s mom doesn’t text him back
Janine
Ultimate version of this as background/hangout movie: me giving birth with it on the hospital tv in the background! 😆
Patrick Mexal
What is it going to take to get the boys to split a joint and watch The Adventures of Ford Fairlane together?
Rich Wojcicki
RE: Live Free of Die Hard. I hold to the idea that movie is like a drunk John McClane re-telling one of his crazy adventures to a buncha cop friends while they close out a bar at 4am. Hence action is over exaggerated and he comes off as way “cooler” than he is in reality. Not an excuse for the movie, it’s just become my head canon

Punch up on Scum Friends title... Scum BUDS? Nod to scumbum?
John Blood
Youre not a snob.

I have always felt like a crazy person for liking this movie. I have never agreed with most of the criticisms. Obviously, nowhere near as good as the original but I have fun with this movie.
Caitlin Bull
I am very late to this ep, but I would like to offer up Australian kids classic ‘The Ferals’ for inspiration for Ben’s tv show: https://youtu.be/NSC4pZBYcsg?si=Pfiy-XDiFavfZ6Hu

Hey guys Art Evans serves a pivotal role in the plot but judging his acting I was not impressed. None of his lines landed for me.
Marty McFly Route
The ending with your mom is so good. That needs to be a recurring bit.
Timothy M Walker
Thank you x

Check out Cutthroat Island, it’s a fistful of tasty ham

Perfect

Dulles is not only not a hot airport, it’s the most despised airport of the DC area. It’s deep into Virginia (by DMV standards), a hellish maze, one of the worst places on earth. They should have picked literally anywhere else.

Sigh I’ve been in love with Griffin since the first episode I heard (honestly the only reason I listened to the podcast for a while) and I always think he can’t get more perfect and then y’all post a nice conversation with this adorable little Jew and his mother. It is cruel to present this man as so desirable 😒
Savannah
Annoyed dad David is my very favorite version of David. “Enough 😑” 🤣🤣🤣
Tom Lowery
Scum Friend$
Roxanne Harvey
Griffin calling his mom needs to be a regular segment. What a delight.
Sean Elliott
crazy how much griffin's mom sounds like romily.
Jenny Potter
Griffin’s mom sounds just like Romily
Joseph Johnson
Probably wont get read, but griff, your mother was revelation. Absolutely delightful conversation, insightful, pleasant and unexpected. She was absolutely lovely and I can't wait for her to have a full episode. 10/10.
Joseph Dakin
Die Hard 2 makes Die Hard 3 look like Die Hard 1
Erik Opland
Holy Shit Scum Friends fuck yes
Garod Wayman
Prison is absolutely worth seeing. It's bonkers and has a young Vigo!
ryan mcgrath
A perfect conversation: “Do you remember who the villain is in die hard one?” “Who?” “Allen Rickman” “Oh, good.”
Charlie Kessler
Bruce IS briefly on a plane in the first Die Hard, so Griffin’s mom technically isn’t wrong there
Jonathan cronin
Ah someone, do the whole Die Hard series…although the criticism that the films become more and more like the films McTernan didn’t want to make is fair.
Cairo Dye
While I don’t think Cutthroat Island is a secret masterpiece, it’s a kind of bizarre messy movie that has some cool big set pieces and some fun sequences (and some less fun ones). Gina Davis’ presences massively increases it’s watchability and she has a monkey side kick which is delightful. A fascinating obscenely expensive object that is probably fun watch with pals and pizza
Susan Hill
Get mom on main feed now. Every time you throw a Kevin Smith episode at me I demand a Griffin’s mom chaser
Ray Goldberg
Spoilers but I think I would listen to a whole ASMR podcast of Griffin’s mom talking about literally anything, while Griffin types on his keyboard
Rad Rodge
The idea that that hasn't actually been discussed in the zillions of minutes of TC discussion on this show is kinda shocking but I think it never has
Rad Rodge
The most enduring thing lodged in my mind from HDTGM is definitely from their Deep Blue Sea episode, it's the voice of Paul F. Tompkins brightly saying "Stellar Skateboard"
Bee
But did he burst through the wall like kool aid man?
Michael Aslin
Griffy baby what’s your mums Letterboxd?
Calculon IV

Griffin calling his mom at the end is an absolute delight
Joanna Patterson
I think David was *thisclose* to explaining that there was an actual racing guy named “Dick Trickle”…we missed out on some choice reactions. 😂
Harry Russ
Yippie Kai Yay, Mr. Falcon for all my fellow Blankies who watched the edited for tv version back in the day.
“Scoop”
Some of John Moore’s choices in “A Good Day to Die Hard” are worth discussing .
DJV
Griffin patiently, calmly explaining the plot of the first Die Hard. Great
Chauncey Telese
Gotta say LL is pretty damn good in In Too Deep
“chris”
Air Kill is a pretty good title tbf
Fred Mercado
I won't stand for this Brain Smasher: a Love story erasure. There were 2 Dice Clay vehicles damnit.
Tyler Duggan
Unrelated: does anyone else want to hear Griffin sing the “Goodbye So Soon” from The Great Mouse Detective? But, like, played back in old timey radio 📻?
Kurt Farschman
Crushing on Griffin's mom now.

Cutthroat island is genuinely boring and bad.
Johannes Wiberg
Great ep but the ending is fantastic, great to have Griffin's mom on the show finally. I voted for Celine Sciamma to damnit.
Scott G Sowers
My son loves the Cars movies because they're movies...about cars
Joon Kim
The bit at the end with griffin talking to his mom over the phone reminds me of listening to CBC’s Wiretap very lovely voice
Devon Wenger
I was a little let down that you refused to talk about the movie... but oh man the end paid out. What a great lady.
Teddy K
I hate to correct Producer Ben, but LL Cool James actually compares his HAT to a sharks fin, not his head. It makes all the sense in the world.
Charles Muller
The conversation with Griffin's mother is superb.
Begemott
Listening to Griffin talk to his mom is a) delightful and b) explains a lot about his personality
Begemott
His dad was on a whole episode! Swimming to Cambodia for the Demme miniseries, it's on this very feed.
Pat Vamos
Everyone call your mom
Thomas Rude
How do we get Griffin’s mom before his dad on this show? Truly, though this is my favorite ending to an episode ever
Donald W Pratt
I continue to prefer Live Free or Die Hard to Die Harder. Of course, they’re both a deep drop from the two McTiernans. (And they’re both well above the pathetic lump of nothing that is A Good Day to Die Hard.)
FrancescoTakesItEasy
Ford Fairlane is quite sexist, and a whole bunch of other -ist, but I like to get high and laugh at it. I think it's funny, but I wouldn't defend it. Cliffhanger is easily the best of the bunch. My favorite Stallone actioner. Looks amazing, has great set pieces, a fantastic score. Cutthroat Island is not as a bad as its rep suggests. The narrative is flat, the pacing is off, there's no chemistry between the leads. But again, it looks great (looks like a fucking movie), and the action delivers. Seriously, the end-of-act-one chase is incredible. I saw this movie for the first time two years ago, and I was floored. The Long Kiss Goodnight is one of my favorites. Not perfect, but incredibly solid. Davis is incredible in it, the movie stands and falls with her. And Deep Blue Sea, hell yeah, that's big-budget creature trash, of which the 90s were full of. Remember The Relic, Anaconda, Mimic, or Deep Rising? This is my shit!
Ross
Good ep.
Drew!
In the hospital, this episode is keeping me sane. Thanks!
Laura Bee
I LOVED Bump in the Night and it has one of the best theme songs for a 90s children’s show
Dick Sneak
Is there a picture of Griff’s mom?
Daniel Jacobs
Long Kiss Goodnight is a personal guilty fav and I've always wanted an excuse to see Cutthroat Island. If no Renny Harlin series, maybe a pirate movie mini series for next year's march madness?
David Kirk
My parents love Cutthroat Island and think it’s a lot better then Pirates of The Caribbean.
Pete
I mean it’s between that and Vengeance, no doubt. I’m more for the latter, but I don’t blame you for preferring 2. I also don’t hate Live Free or Die Hard (😬), but A Good Day to Die Hard is a trash can fire of a movie (not in a good way).
BestowalDonkey8
They’ll never make a sixth in the series now but I would have liked to have seen As I Lay Dying Hard.

Griffins phone call with his mom where she lucidly explains that she was indeed somehow a fan of Die Hard 2 while also quietly confirming he saw Jungle Book as a 1 year old was like the end of Big Fish where you realize the crazy bastard was telling the truth the whole time.
Sami Pöyry

These are nice gentleman doing the Lord's work.

This is actually the second best Die Hard film. (fight me, but nicely lol)

DAMN!!! I was hoping for a commentary. Lol no worries let me go watch die hard 2 now 😒😂
