I live in Honolulu in 1990, and that’s where I found the original comics at Jelly’s (my all time favorite comics shop; holla if anybody remembers it). I couldn’t believe that anybody other than marvel could make compelling comics. I loved them; that’s why I love the first movie because it adapts the original story very well.

The whole story of Griffin's audition is fascinating because it shows all the variables that can go into an audition that you might not even have an idea about. Like, if Michael Bay is directing this, and reacting the way Liebesman was reacting in the room, Griffin probably gets that part regardless of how well it matches the film's energy (of course, one of the things that makes him Michael Bay is that he always makes choices consistent with his films' energy, whatever you may think of it). But Bay is producing, not directing (and the guy who is directing may well have looked at a final cut of Battle: Los Angeles and said, "yeah, that's acceptable") meaning that everyone auditioning needs to be thinking less about how they are playing in the moment and more about how they are playing to a group of humorless suits watching this on a TV in a board room. Which seems like it could put an actor in an uncomfortable position where the director is trying to draw more out of you and you're trying to keep him happy while also trying to hold back enough not to tank your chances in the board room.

As a huge Turtles fan I think it’s funny that both this series and Shaun Diston’s TMNT podcast focus on the movies. I understand why on BC, they cover movies, but the Turtles are always better, and frankly known for, being a TV series and comic book. That’s where they shine. There are arguably only two good Turtles feature motion pictures. And they’re separated by over 30 years. TMNT (1990) and TMNT Mutant Mayhem. They live and die on how good their animated series and/or comic runs are.

It has been so long since I revisited this movie. I can't believe I saw both of these things in theaters, tbh. This one, specifically is pretty putrid. I guess I was just 14 and so jazzed on TMNT that I was willing to give anything that had the brand on it a shot! I def am curious to hear what Ben thinks of the other shows if he ever gives them a shot. I dig them all, and think both Nick cartoons (2012 and Rise) are pretty great!
