Seth Gilbert

Did anyone ever suggest the renfield/dracula/harker completion could be the TriState Area?

films

Sup?

Holly Catlin-Meyer

Just now listening to this and it’s so fun! Not the most-fun reminder from a swamped front-line healthcare worker: get your vaccinations please, and don’t sub. sanitizer for appropriate hand-washing! šŸ˜…

Jestin

Ephrata PA mentioned. Probably Complete in Box. ARP with the deep PA pulls

Danh Nguyen

Agreed, not going to take advice about dorkiness for cosplay or going to cons from people thirsting over an actor in a movie theater. Going to cons in cosplay rules

Matt L.

Shoutout to producer ben for always splitting the audio out into stereo when crosstalk gets too complicated, it always surprises me but is greatly appreciated

John Boy

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

The Duke of Nebraska

Shitting on someone for a hobby they clearly love is pretty fucking weird. And getting loudly horny in a public setting is too, maybe that's why people look over their shoulders at you.

The Duke of Nebraska

No one gives a shit about the Jellicle Ball

Dale Jason Armstrong

Something that should be acknowledged, ā€œBeautiful Ghostsā€ is also WRITTEN BY Taylor Swift and ALW, and it comedically is listed two separate times in the credits at the end.

FiddlersGreenDay

I watched Cats along with it but...I'm also scrollin'.

Matthew Stanasolovich

This is an eating ass kinda podcast

Bryan Akerley

How we desperately needed ARP for the rest of this miniseries. Man gets it

PictureBoxPuppy

I would be willing to pay 10x as much for this Patreon if they covered better movies. I don’t even need the movies ā€œcoveredā€ the way they do on main feed but honestly we’re all just paying for the convo anyway right? Why do they insist on movies like Cats to be the backdrop? I’m ok with the waste of money but it’s honestly starting to feel like torture. I really think they underestimate how much it sucks when they commit to these picks.

Annie

Yes! The original Broadway production ran from 1982-2000. The revival ran from July 2016-Dec. 2017

Clayton Spinney

4K or not, the Blu ray of Cats is completely worth it for the Tom Hooper commentary, where he has a very high-minded and philosophical discussion of his decisions in making the movie.

Jose S. De Leon

A reminder that the effects for this movie were so rushed because Universal moved the release date of this movie by a year to delay Wicked. It's a release date swap that ended up working out for everyone involved!

Jose S. De Leon

I saw this as part of a Thursday night opening double feature between this and Rise of Skywalker. Saw Rise first and hated it so much that I chugged wine at the theater bar before my Cats showing and had a blast

Davis Telleen

As somebody who lived in Lancaster and knows Ephrata, I feel like Alex failed at pronouncing both.

Rad Rodge

It reminds me of ā€œmedium talentā€ in that it seems more artfully cutting than to just flatly call it ā€œundignifiedā€ or something

Jonathan Skufca

Satoshi Kon doesn’t have any video game adaptions BUT the first two (maybe?) Paranoia Agent episodes DID got released (I think just in Japan) on the UMD-video format used by the PSP. Just so ya know.

John

ā€œBeautiful Ghostsā€ not only makes me cry almost every time I hear it but it made me respect Taylor Swift. I’m aware that’s insane not a joke. I just get sad thinking of lonely kitties haha

MoCoSwede

After 3 rather low-energy ALW episodes, this one fulfills my ā€œbad movie makes for a good episodeā€ hopes!

Marshy XIV

Sideways on YouTube has a very good analysis of the Cats movie worth checking out.

Harrison Stanley

Truly just waiting now for the bonus game show episode where Griffin and David guess whether or not Alex likes or dislikes a thing. Maybe even get a couple other blankies guest all timers for a panel? I'd listen to the hell out of that.

Steven Ray Morris

The grading of Wicked is bad, but the actual huge sets and practical work is really cool (the CGI is whatever and not that much an issue while watching it).

Steven Ray Morris

A podcast intro after my own heart.

PictureBoxPuppy

I also think Wicked looks like dog shit. And I feel like I’m being too nice by saying ā€œthinkā€. It does look like dog shit. And that has nothing to do with me being a man. That’s nonsense. Marie and other Wicked fans are just flat out lying if they say otherwise. You can’t dunk on Marvel movies and their white skies and stale color palettes and then say Wicked looks fine. $150 million dollar budget and the lighting and colors are aggressively bad. I don’t care if you were a 14 year old girl when you first experienced some iteration of the thing. THIS one looks bad. You can be honest about that and still speak to the fact that you like the music, performances or people involved etc so much that you’re choosing to overlook its glaringly obvious visual flaws . Some constructive criticism from a real Wicked fan encourages the next person to remake it to get it right. But shrugging it off and just claiming to love the thing or whatever just feels like the opposite will happen and they’ll care even less about the visuals next time. And I’m aware that this may be a side effect of the stars involved. Griffin even spoke to the fact that for Oceans 8 it was a struggle to light 8 different star actresses because they have their own particular demands to get their best lighting so these movies opt for a neutral bland middle ground. Wicked especially is lighting a black woman and these film cameras are often designed to only flatter white people. And to make the task even more difficult the woman’s entire body is GREEN. Add that to Ariana Grande who I’m sure has always had say in her lighting demands while also for some reason this last year or so she’s been paler than usual and her eyebrows are dyed blonde which ever since Thor 1 I’ve believed is a grave mistake.

Begemott

"This movie is low on dignity" is one of the best David burns of all time

Michael

Totally agree with Griffin, Cats is awesome, no exaggeration maybe the best time I’ve ever had in a movie theater and one of the most unusual movies ever made. I saw it high as fuck in the front row of a packed theater, with Cats musical die-hards next to us and rowdy, irreverent teens behind us. Having the movie playing along with the fraught battle between the teens and die-hard fans unfold around us was the truest 4DX experience of all time.

Tom Lowery

ā€œCats, now and forever.ā€ —Alex Ross Perry, TIFF 2018

David Schmitt

Cracking open the dossier should have a sound effect

Michael Barrett

What a catastrophe of a film, I am glad that I am not the only one who elevates Cats (2019) as the sole cause of the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic

Rad Rodge

One of Ben’s greatest recent moments on the show, it destroyed me too

fartinscorcese

I stand by the fact that Cats (per my Letterboxd review) is an avant-Garde piece of dance theatre, a warning against the dangers of factionalism

Railway Cat song really was the surprise MVP

Lobo

@David ? I don’t know if Boss Baby is too old for it now or not but as a fellow train fan I was wondering if you know about the double punch crush kids show Choo Choo Soul? https://youtu.be/AzjL6Z9Lztc?feature=shared

Lobo

My vote for best Corden is Small Foot. But thats maybe from the eyes of a parent whose kid loves yetis

Stephanie Radcliffe

Tried showing this to my musical-intolerant husband once and delighted when the horror washed over him about 10 minutes in when he asked "Wait, is this just about a bunch of cats naming themselves?"

Lucas Roetter

I can't believe y'all got me to watch this finally.

Mike Brogan

Same!

Paul Scanniello

It’s showing up in Overcast now.

James Scott

Because Ben made an off-hand reference to RuPaul’s drag race, I just wanted to mention that even though they share DNA, ballroom is not the same as drag. Excited to hear that Griffin and Marie enjoyed the Jellicle Ball tho!

Spencer Alger

Would be awesome if someone could re-publish this episode or something. Something went wrong and tons of people still don’t have access to the episode 16 hours after initial release

Spencer

Andrew Lolo Baloney.

Jon-Erik Means

James Corden is so good in Mike Leigh’s All or Nothing that I thought maybe I got it all wrong with him. Doesn’t sound like I did. In All or Nothing though: great.

H Alex Younger

Did this not download on apple for anyone else?

The Mad Jay Woman

#JusticeForMrMistoffelees They did that character so dirty, yes I will stay bitter, that was like *the* part for little powerful dancing men much to my 14 yr old delight and I will use any space available to complain about it

Brie Miracle

Hadn’t heard of Cats: The Jellicle Ball until now and after watching a few clips online and am obsessed. Feels like this was made specifically for me.

Barrett Lilly

Can’t wait to listen, unfortunately this isn’t showing up on the Overcast app :(

Isabelle Iverson

Haven’t listened yet but if the crew doesn’t appreciate my boy Skimble appropriately I’ll riot. Best part of the movie hands down

Javier AlcƔcer

Seems like it's not showing anywhere else but Patreon.

Joseph DiGiovanni

Not on apple podcasts either

Sean Flannelly

I can’t seem to listen on patreon even

Richelle Olsen

not on spotify either šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Paul Brown

Anyone know why this isn’t showing up on Overcast?

Hunter Plummer

The way my brain was screaming when nobody realized Alex saw the CATS revival, not the original, and every time Griffin said "Memories" instead of "Memory."

ian

Not in podcast addict either. :(

Chas

And now it’s canon forever, yay!!

Francisco Hernandez

My father is a huge fan pf ALW (he’s seen Phantom almost 20 times on various stages) and Cats was the first musical my family ever took me to see. It’s a terrifying fever dream and I love it.

Tomas Marinara

Something to do with the RSS feed settings. Not sure specifically. Sorry!

Blank Check with Griffin & David

What are you hearing we need to do?

The Kacer

Yup, thought it wasn't posted until I saw someone in Discord talking about it

Amy Patrick

I have two cats and love the music of the show Cats. The Jellicle Ball was a revelation and made the naming aspect of the show and the performative nature of the show make sense and illuminate it in an exciting way. I will talk about that production with anyone.

Spencer Alger

It's not just you, I've reached out to Patreon support but it looks like several other people are having the same issue. From what I can tell it's a Patreon issue not pocket casts or an issue with any specific podcast player.

Tomas Marinara

Anyone else having the issue where this isn't showing up in PocketCasts? Heard it may be a sync issue thanks to a recent Patreon update that might need to fixed on BC's end

Melissa Kelly

Jennifer Hudson’s talk show is still on the air

Skimbleshanks The Railway Cat

At laaaaaaaaaaaaast

Ben Fairbank

A semi-feral cat with a missing tail lives on my porch. We named it Skimbleshanks McNubbin.

Michael Cuculich

This seems to be a patreon issue. I feel now that all my patreon rss feeds aren't updating

Ryan Mullarkey

Griffins sincere enjoyment of this movie resonates with me a lot.

Carolyn

Meow

Conor Dabler

Not just me then, thank you

Lyle Sweppenheiser

The end of the world was Rey and Kylo kissing

Xorp

Just a heads up that the Patreon RSS feed seems to not be updating

Gemini smile

Jennifer Hudson in the illuminati. She got the same contract MGK, John Legend, Pete Davison and Dr Phil got. A lot of weird Hollywood shit with her.

Jules

ARP's Lee Daniels story was a little embarrassing (mostly for Lee Daniels 😬), but Griffin and Marie's story about those Jellicle Ball performers has shaken me šŸ’€

Big Charelton

The image in my head of David and Star Wars and Knives Out director Ryan Johnson hunching over a phone to watch thr Cats trailer is hilarious to me.

Flippy

Savid Dims! Niffin Grewman! Hen Bosley! Sarie Bardi-Malinas!

Jordan B. Anderson

11 minutes in and griffin is already screaming

Zach

I'm not even going to watch it again I just want to listen to your reaction

ian

Jellicles know that Cats(2019) rules

Zach

On my porch with my laptop and I Got my catnip all ready

Russ W

I paid $5 to listen to the twin peaks season 2 episode and that kind of pissed me the fuck off so I consider a Cats episode retribution.

Liz aka Cosbrarian

The reason we started this whole thing

gw

my final two pre-covid movie theater experiences because, yes, i saw it twice in one weekend

Jordan B. Anderson

i'm gonna get jellicle all over the place
