BC MARCH MADNESS 2025 - Day 8
🕑 Added 2025-03-08 19:00:09 +0000 UTCSorry, David Sims! Muppets WIN!!! Nerds win! Virgins win! Felt WINS!!!
Up today - two series that promise barrels of laughs. Like, me (Marie) on Austin Powers level of laughs.
It's HAPPY MADISON: ORIGINS vs NAKED GUN.
Two handsome devils.
With Happy Madison, we'd cover six films from the beginning of Adam Sandler's career:
Happy Gilmore
Billy Madison
Wedding Singer
Waterboy
Big Daddy
Little Nicky
With Naked Gun, we'd cover four movies - the Leslie Nielsen ones and the upcoming reboot:
The Naked Gun
The Naked Gun 2 1/2
The Naked Gun 33 1/3
The Naked Gun (Liam Neeson edition)
Who takes this round?
Comments
Robert Young
Tickle me, Elmore.
Jon Ryves
exactly. and there's more of a narrative with Nicky being a bounce
Jon Tiberious
Ah hell yeah
Justin Hopkins
I gotta campaign for Naked Gun. Adam Sandler movies are fart in a paper bag movies.
Jon M.
Samesies!
Michael Curley
It’s a shame about the time change. I think Naked Gun could pull this out if it had that extra hour.
James
…. Kendice can’t remember the name of the actors in the film. Help me
Andrew Wyslotsky
Little Nicky is the shiznit
Beef Steak Tomato
I don’t even like Sandler movies, but the idea a Naked Gun commentary with everyone talking over/missing jokes or just laughing at them… yeah, doesn’t lend itself to the format. Sandler movies have better sidebars and more room to breathe.
Tomas Marinara
I'm going with Naked Gun to mainly hear Griffin defend 33.3. Feel like its a STEEP drop in quality from the first two.
David Dein
My operating theory is that I'm probably 10 years older than the typical blankie! The Naked Gun meant so much to 8 year old me, whereas I was a college kid through the height of Happy Madison, I loved them all, but they mean so little to me now.
sheabobay
This is so fun guyssss !! THE EXCITEMENT
Jay Kay
As much as naked gun rules it’s 4 similarish movies whereas early happy Madison is just nuts
ian
every single one of my choices has lost so far. it's maddening
Clammy_Damp
Damn I’m really swimmin upstream with these polls y’all
Bon Champion
Lol this is how I learn Akiva Schaffer and Liam Neeson are making a Naked Gun
Anthony Strand
Griffin has mentioned that the Naked Gun are "the first, second, and third funniest movies of all time" and I'm really curious to hear what he sees in 33 1/3 that justifies that kind of praise. I love 2 1/2, but the third one is such a big step down.
Alethia St. Joan
oh c’mon Naked Gun!
Kathryn Funkhouser
It's a topsy-turvy podcast, and maybe the problems of two people don't amount to a hill of beans. But this is our hill. And these are our beans! VOTE NAKED GUN!
Spencer Kindra
Naked Gun because they’re Griffin’s favorite comedies.
Joseph Allen
Don’t like or get Sandler movies at all. Most are unwatchable.
Joseph Allen
Love Naked Guns
Robert Young
I take umbrage with them avoiding Going Overboard by doing early HM instead of early Sandler.
Good
They haven’t done anything remotely to Adam Sandler movies on this Patreon so I’m definitely picking happy Madison. Shit I wish there was more American pie type movies on his bracket.
Patrick Dale
The Sandler movies have a more interesting arc to them than the Naked Gun movies. Really interesting as they try to triangulate Sandler's comedic movie star persona. I'm more interested in that than whether the movies are good or not.
Sj
The original naked gun is the only one out of this entire list that I could put on and enjoy all the way through.
Maxwell Partington
You guys, Naked Gun would be WAY better
Masturov Desguys
C’mon Happy Madison. Ride or die to the end so I can tell my partner for the 112th time about how the Waterboy was filmed in my high school’s foosball stadium.
Glenn Peters
I wish Naked Gun could win, if only for Police Squad to be covered in the bonus feed.
Michael Caulfield
Four Lions, Best in Show, Pop Star, Step Brothers, Borat (both of them), Austin Powers (the first one only), Office Space, Pineapple Express, Magicians, Galaxy Quest, The Cable Guy Mel Brooks is also Not Funny.
herb
Really hoping this gets covered on Scott Hasn't Seen. Gets brought up a lot.
herb
Let's go, Naked Gun! Also thank you to Scott Aukerman for alerting me to the fact that the 1980 Get Smart film is called "The Nude Bomb." That's fucking interesting, man....
John W
Naked Gun was a product of its time -- and it shows. Adam Sandler has only and ever been somewhere between not at all funny and appallingly awful. It will truly be mad if either of these wins the tournament.
Carolyn
Little Nicky needs a commentary, that movie is wild
Adam Kushner
Naked Gun is one of my favorite comedies of all time and I’m not a huge fan of early Sandler but I don’t think any of those Sandler movies are as bad as Naked Gun 33 1/3 so I’m torn.
Brandon Skidmore
Sandler, obviously. Ain’t that hard yall
Susan Hoffa
Either way this will free up a few hours for me. Not really invested in either choice.
Anthony Regina
Look, I defend Sandler a bit more these days than I would have in my snootier years, and the early Happy Madison movies are pretty fun, but the Naked Gun are spoof movies made by comedy experts at their height. Make the right choice here, people!
Anthony Pierre Coco
Pretty sure David has a much stronger love for Sandler than most critics
Jake Vogt
This is why I voted against Monty Python too (that and I love the Muppets). I don’t think the commentary track format lends itself well to zany humor
JG.Chatt
I’ve never so quickly ran to the Patreon app to smash a vote button in my life. This would be hell for David but Heaven for me. Vote Happy Madison!
Matt Remmers
It is beyond rude to make David have to sit through Little Nicky. He is our friend.
Luke Crawford
So... what's funny then? I'm not saying these are peak comedies necessarily, but not funny at all? I'm curious about your take.
Rob R
If Naked Gun loses I will report you all to Police Squad
Ryan Spearman
Oooo Liam Neeson Naked Gun -votes Happy Gilmore-
Ginger’s Boyfriend Matt
Directed by Akiva from the lonely island. Very exciting!
Ginger’s Boyfriend Matt
Toughest choice so far for me. I appreciated naked gun later in life, Happy Madison classics are in my bones. Had to go with the sandman
zero
Liam. Neeson. Edition? ?
John Toerner
lol, I just said the exact opposite.
John Toerner
Wow, I love all these movies, but I’m gonna have to vote for the Naked Gun. Classic
astrolupine
NG is a bunch o' diminishing returns and one legendary awful transphobic bit. I will gladly take the Sandman's many poop joke over the hateful one, tanks.
Michael Caulfield
Whoever wins, we lose (sorry, neither of these series are funny)
Del Lorenson
The Sandman! Decade of Dreams!
Scott Babcock
“You’re a great podcast, dad”
Frickward Testicles
There will be!
Matt Demello
There’s a Liam Neeson Naked Gun?
justn
FIRST!
Chase Mitchell
(I’m also of the possibly controversial mind that the Neeson Naked Gun stands a chance at being good)
Adam Grzegorczyk
The Naked Gun trilogy are three of my favorite comedies of all time, just don't have much interest in listening to people watch them
Chase Mitchell
Oh man this is too tough, can you please just do both
Mike Nyman
This is the rudest matchup
Tashmon Dimps
The spirit of the Sand Man compels m
Kyle Harlan
I’d choose to watch the Naked Gun movies 10 times out of 10 over Happy Madison, but the discussion around all the ups and downs of early Sandler are too good to pass on.
Aric Yakel-Kuntz
Okay I may be more sold on Happy Madison now
Aric Yakel-Kuntz
I want naked gun so bad. These movies are bedrock comedy for me
Flappy McGillicuddy-Jones III
Shoutout to Leslie’s tombstone
Richard Oren
Picked a great time to find out there’s a reboot
Amani M
And the sequel of Happy Gilmore is coming out on Christmas this year
Keith Seaman
Ditto
J
Hibiddy dibbity
Spencer Pommier
I'm gonna be kind of sad if they don't like water boy. Just like living in Louisiana it's kind of a nastalgic movie for me and my family
Andre
Give me Griffin’s Little Nicky impression
Michael Birdsall
I mean the sequel of Little Nicky is on the way, why not do it for a refresh
Cordlessphone12
No
J R
I am on the wrong side of history *Every Time*
Jason Feffer
I really need to hear Ben cry during Wedding Singer and Big Daddy
