Looks like I hurt your feelings little guy. Sorry about that
Ray
Lol relax bro
Ray
Also, it was meant in jest. Relax.
Ray
In my experience commentaries usually have to do with the thing that they're watching
Anthony B
Oh no talking during my star trek commentary 😢
Anthony B
Feel like if you are frustrated that people are talking during a commentary track you should stop listening to commentary tracks! This is how every one of their commentary tracks go just because they talk over a movie you like doesn’t mean you should be an asshole to the hosts. Its the whole point of a commentary track
Doug Robertson
Just here to say I love David's love for Trek, Next Gen is my favorite show ever. Every other show I love is "the best show without Star Trek in a title".
steven dhanis
Good episode I love David Griff and Ben’s dynamic, it reminds me of some other podcast hosts who also have a great time. “Star Trek the next conversation” is a great watch along recap show featuring awesome jingles , great insight and is super concise…5 stars Matt n Andy!
Winson Paine
You missed the tragic backstories for all the characters then which might have been cool if they were shown earlier so I could give a shit about them in the first place. The wandering eyeball hobo who wandered in from the cutting room floor of Game of Thrones somehow managed to get less interesting in the course of things. Dune Prophecy makes Rings of Power look like Cars 1.
JC9000
yup, its super awesome when griff feels the need to tell a story from his fancy youth. mfer is on one show and can't stop huffing his own farts
JC9000
He's a special boy it only matters if it matters to him or sparks a story relating to him
JC9000
lmao, it's honestly what I picture in my head as "Mark Twain" whenever that particular situation presents itself to my brain.
Josh Burcham
They really turned every characters dial to maximum bland. Couldn't get past episode 4. It would be one thing if it was bad in a funny way but it's not even amusing most of the time (dune p. Not penguin)
Mike Cook
Generalizing here, but I think Star Wars die hards have shown themselves to be largely not chill and not progressively minded, to say the least. So it doesn’t surprise me they hate trek. I don’t think trek fans dislike Star Wars in the same way though. They either like it too, just not as much as trek or they don’t think about it at all. But I don’t feel like trek fans hate Star Wars. For movies about the little guy standing up to evil space fascists, it’s weird how many Star Wars fans don’t seem to agree with its politics. Star Trek fans however, are almost uniformly aligned with the political ethos of the franchise. It’s weird.
Mike Cook
HOT TAKE: Star Trek shouldn’t change its depiction of technology to keep up with what we have today. That assumes today’s technology is evolving towards a utopic future. It clearly isn’t. Maybe in Star Trek they purposely stopped using certain technologies that were proven harmful to humanity. 🖖
Ben Cook-Feltz
Data even said as much in a Season 2 episode. "One is my name, the other is not."
CJ Foss
I had the same response and I was mad that I did
Ross
As a big red dwarf fan I want to know more about Griffins opinions on the show. Fav season or episode? Or joke?
Ashley Schoenfeld
I love my best friends Data and Worf

Here’s the thing about Star Trek v. Star Wars…why is it even a thing? Other than being scifi, they’re two wildly different properties. And there’s also no reason to choose between them. I get that in 1977 your average kid only had a quarter a week to spend on comic books and had to choose between DC and Marvel…but, by and large, Trek and Wars were never really competing in that way, nor was there ever a reason to miss out one in favor of the other. But to this day, 90% of Star Wars diehards will instantly tell you, unprompted, pridefully, and apropos of nothing, that they hate Star Trek because they’re “Really just more of a Star Wars guy”, as if that means anything and they were somehow forced to choose. It’s like saying, “Ugh, I HATE Harry Potter, I’m really just more of a Conan the Barbarian guy”.
Leonard Witte
Griffin mixed up Mufasa and Scar! Get him!
Bill Fitzmaurice
It bugs me in the movie that Troi and Worf were dating at the end of the series and it is never addressed.
Jon Holt
We get a glimpse into Griffins inner child on a regular basis, but it’s not often we see Davids inner child to this degree, very satisfying and entertaining
CT
But then continually said “Datta” instead of “Daytah”
CT
I mean, it’s just rude. That’s not how his name is pronounced, nor is it hard to get it right.
CT
It’s ok if they have a valid point….
CT
I mean, listen to the episode…Griffin goes on and on and on and on and on about how much he hates this show he has never seen.
Erich Geiger
That's not Rosalind Chao that David calls out in the Sickbay scene. That is Nurse Ogawa played by Patti Yasutake. Sadly it seems she passed away last year.
Bairbre
Read that as "fixes podcast protector".
Trevor Talley
Huge burn
Trevor Talley
CT that's exactly what I mean. David did watch it, but they have been pushing this bias against "legacy" TV that grates. I love the boys, they're smart and I listen to every episode. But there's a difference between their analysis of things they engage with and what they dismiss out of hand as an entire example of an art form. It's just not interesting at best and makes me very frustrated more often than not
CT
He’s such a precise, insistent pedant about most things, I don’t know why he can’t get this right. It’s not even a gif/jif kinda thing…it’s the man’s name, and it isn’t up for debate how it’s pronounced.
Crash Calhoun
I don’t disagree with your opinion, but my opinion is it’s fun and enjoyable. We’re both right.
Ray
I had to turn down the volume a couple of times because they weren't paying attention and the movie was getting good.
CT
Except they didn’t even watch it, but instead decided before hand that it was the “type” of thing they were sick of and wrote it off
CT
Also a good 20 minutes up top about The Penguin, a show only one of them has see any of, but that they both agree they hate in general principle(?!)
CT
No…it’s not. And….no, it’s not. It’s some of the most desperate, derivative crap ever made. Cumberbatch as Khan?? Are you kidding? And was there really story about him hiding a bunch of his followers inside torpedos, or was I (hopefully) hallucinating that??
Mike Cook
I must be fully trek pilled because to me that man IS Mark Twain. FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE 🤣
Mike Cook
I love Star Trek and specifically TNG. This rocked balls! Can’t wait to hear what they think of first contact because it’s awesome and can’t wait to hear what they think of insurrection and nemesis because they suck. Fun either way!
CT
I don’t care about Kirk v. Picard…or Trek v. Wars…but for some reason, I always get irked when people mispronounce Data’s name.
Begemott
"Is this the earliest we've seen Guinan in the timeline?" *adjusts glasses, fixes pocket protector* No, she shows up on Earth in the late 19th century in the end of season 5 two-parter Time's Arrow. Which also features the worst Mark Twain impression ever put to film!
Randy Johnson
Every time Griffin says "Datta" it hurts my soul. I didn't realize what a tremendous nerd I am until this moment.
Manish Agarwal
“Let me do this! You shush!” A+ David energy 🤣
John Thomas Glenn Lowery
“Engage.” [Presses play button]
Rad Rodge
Psssh I’m sorry, I wanted to be positive and I let Rise of Skywalker back into my mind and I lost decorum, I want to refocus on Bruce Greenwood’s sideburns, that was good stuff
Rad Rodge
(Which I guess is often the JJ Abrams story in movies, a scintillating casting director and great curator of performances who just has certain things he wants to write that I wouldn’t have encouraged if you had let me put in a word)
Rad Rodge
I mean, Bruce Greenwood is hitting 5 treys in limited minutes, that’s what I take with me about the movie, really all the acting is good to great even though I rarely agree with the purpose it’s being put to but Greenwood is my relationship to the movie
Boogie
90% sure the picture of Picard shows to Ben of the "Picard with hair" test was actually from a later season when they did a flashback.
Chris Hubbard
This is why I support Blank Check. They’re not afraid to stand up and speak out in the face of Gen Z Honk Shoe erasure!
Bonesaw Greene
Not a burger, but I fed Michael Dorn three days in a row when he was in town for a convention. Wonderful tipper and polite as hell.
Rad Rodge
I feel like so much of the Blank Check Bob Pat journey has played out exclusively on Special Features, it’s such an important thread by now
Rad Rodge
I didn’t really see it coming but I welcome it
Podcast Enjoyer
Jenette Goldstein snuck right past them huh
Aaron Watson
Yeah. I didn't realize how much I needed this series, and how grateful I am to listen to it.
Aaron Watson
I was 12 when TNG started. Through Junior High, High School, and into college I never missed an episode. I was that person. Thanks for getting back to these.

Early on but loving this so far. 🙂 And please.....MORE Laszlo Toth jokes!
Crash Calhoun
Star Trek Into Darkness is a good and fun movie. You’re allowed to like it folks. It’s ok to do so.
Rad Rodge
I forgot that I was informed enough to know this
Rad Rodge
I regret to admit that I believe you are correct
Daniel Chilvers #BringBackTheKrynoid
Griffin is pronouncing Data just like Doctor Pulaski
Winson Paine
Dune Prophecy is a dripping watery shit tho
Winson Paine
I LOVED THE PENGUIN SO MUCH I CARE DEEPLY WHY THE PENGUIN IS SAAAAAD
Hygge State
I love Star Trek. I am excited for these!
Andrew Rogers
They're absolutely watching the movie for this one and I am here for it.
Billnetherlands
I love that Griffin used the term Trekker, rather than Trekkie.
Infinite Terror
I just rewatched all the Trek movies. It was wonderful. Generations was the first Trek movie I ever saw in theaters, special one for me. When Kirk asks Picard at the end, as he's slipping away, "Did we do it? Did we make a difference?" Well, I'm tearing up just typing it out right now. There is power in the vague altruism of "making a difference" that Shatner conveys in a uniquely powerful way.
Neal Fersko
It seemed like it was a long haul project to keep Patrick Stewart interested in Star Trek, he was going to quit the show a bunch of times and in Best of Both Worlds they are even laying the groundwork for him to leave in case they cannot come to terms with Stewart on his contract. So he's even coming into these movies not feeling Picard or Star Trek is something worth doing anymore.

seated for the RBatz fangirling
Ginger’s Boyfriend Matt
It’s ok to hear people have a negative opinion of something you like. I like The Penguin too but the boys are just talkin’, it’s fine
BensDecoy
Long shot but I wonder if David ever managed to get a copy of Fade In by Michael Piller who was a lead writer on TNG and also the film Insurrection. It’s not really a tell-all dirty secrets book but it does touch on one of the issues that came up during these TNG movies is that Sir Patrick Stewart always wanted to be an action movie star. Once you know that the way Picard’s character shifted over the seasons as well as a lot of the sillier stuff in the movies shifts into focus. It’s hard to fault the guy for pursuing a dream outside of a kind of dignified erudite typecasting but he might have been somewhat responsible for the greater TNG sphere getting sillier as a way to help fulfill his James Bond fantasies.
Ginger’s Boyfriend Matt
This is a blast. Gonna need you to change your release model to daily for just this series please
Matthew Park
You may want to sit down for this, Mark Wahlberg also owns a car dealership in Columbus, OH : https://www.markwahlbergchevy.com
Mike Cook
Yay! Can’t wait! Literally relistened to the motion picture commentary last night. Does this mean Griff has finally watched TNG? I guess I’ll find out!
steven dhanis
But David “the penguin” is dark and dare I say TWISTED…. Super bold new take right?
Sloane
Let's fucking go girls
Bob Al-Greene
Haven’t we seen Guinan at an earlier point in the timeline, in the episode with Mark Twain where they travel to old times San Francisco? God I can’t believe I’m writing this
David Baxandall
Movie begins at 31 mins, don’t even need to listen to know it’s a good episode
JC9000
re: star trek music, don't sleep on Vic Fontaine (James Darren) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0X-4_ySb5U
Ray
Patrick Stewart is doing a master class of cry acting and they're talking about Mark Wahlberg. What is life
Manish Agarwal
🖖🏾
Spencer Pommier
Patrick Stewart's best role was as the villain in Castlevania Lords of Shadow
Good
After episode 1 it’s downhill for the penguin. I only kept watching it because Colin Farrell was so damn good! It’s crazy. Matt Reeves batman was so boring OMG! the first 10 mins was pretty amazing though. I just don’t understand why they didn’t just make a movie 2 years ago.
Andrew Rogers
Make it so
Good
Griff looks pretty good bald not gonna lie. Patrick Stewart’s body is also helping but still 😂😂
Trevor Talley
Penguin rocks. I would ask that the 3 friends maybe recognize that they don't like this kind of tv. Some of us do.
Mike Brogan
Anyone else not seeing it in their podcast app? I’m using overcast fwiw.
JC9000
WHAT ok well I'm jazzed. nice one! the end of the run is gonna be a tad rough. Also, having done all the Moore and Pierce Bonds... TDalts is only 2 movies and would make it all one continuous series..!! ...just saying!! edit: kudos to dave for trying to keep griff reigned in, how hard can it be to talk about a movie you haven't seen without looking up and reading out shit off your phone simultaneously? Ben needs a "stfu everyone" buzzer to hit because hes paying the most attention
Rad Rodge
Hell yeah, call me Jodie Foster cause what I am is OK to go
Jordan B. Anderson
what a delightful way to finish this stupid week
Mark Kalzer
"David Carson film". A phrase you never hear literally anywhere.
Christopher Teuma
Excellent.

A full half hour before the movie starts 😍
