Also "HL" mean hard light, the layer style I use for shading.

I use a preset brush from the MaxPack gouache brush set! Specifically, I use the 600 Pencil brush and the Colored Pencil Waxy

Oh wow, so it can vary a lot. I appreciate the tutorial—the “behind the scenes” aspect of showing how you make choices when you’re working is really interesting to me!

Thank you! I usually figure it out through thumbnail sketches, but it it doesn’t work out I’ll correct it as I go. Sometimes it won’t be till the very end where i decide to completely change the lighting all together!

Just makes me appreciate your hard work even more. Do you normally work on lighting at towards the end of a rendered piece then? Or does it come once you’ve figured out the overall shape of the figure?
