Technically he had a lot more energy anyway but Roslin really did find him too pretty to just use and toss.
I rather enjoyed that the mage regained more intelligence as they absorbed more energy from Zanarin. Was Zanarin able to survive purely because the mage allowed it or did he have more energy than a normal human because of his nature?
