Let's hope from now on.

I usually switch to something else as soon Diamond says "My name is Diamond Feit" but was distracted when this one ended. For a second I wondered if he sings after every This Week in Retro

Jon Heiman

So does Super Metroid.

I loved the original, like everyone else. But I never played the second one, as it seemed like 2K really missed the point of it all by doing another game in the same setting right away. Then again, Infinite was a big whiff too. Maybe some things are best left as one-offs.

Wholeheartedly agree, but there's always that sense of homecoming when you eventually do end up back in Kamurochō, and I'd argue that Rapture was no different - as much as I really genuinely like Bioshock 2, I felt its faults lay with the repetitive, wave-based gameplay, and it was the location and aesthetics that held people. I mean, people were thrilled to return in the DLC for Infinite, though I'd personally had enough of Rapture at that point, having been stirred by an adventure in the clouds. To each their own, though - and that's why I love your weeklys: sometimes I feel affirmed, and sometimes I'm given food for thought. Either way, I can't wait to see what the next one might be 🤝

Diamond Feit

thank you! I don't remember how I made the connection between BioShock 2 and a 70s sitcom but once I did, I had to compose my own parody lyrics and record myself singing. It just made sense.

I'm dumb, I actually did really enjoy Bioshock 2 on release at the time but I also kind of think it was a missed opportunity how the original concept of BioShock 2 was that the Soviets find Rapture after the events of 1 and send troops in there and you were some CIA agent sent to stop them. Very bad action movie setup but I'd love for the final boss to be some weird Soviet mutant menance than the actual non-final boss BioShock 2 had.

Diamond Feit

In that case, I’d argue Kamurochō plays an important supporting role but the characters and criminal intrigue make the series work. Besides, they spend plenty of time outside that neighborhood, including other cities, the past, or even other countries.

Diamond's singing is a special treat for those who wait all the way through the audio version.

KendoHead

"A single location—no matter how fantastic—cannot support the weight of franchise expectations" Excuse me, sir - Kamurochō would like a word.
