Although I agree in regard to crediting the developers and individuals for their work, I imagine Kazuhisa Hashimoto had complicated feelings toward the Gradius port for the Famicom/NES. In the same interview in 1up.com, Hashimoto comments that it was a very difficult game to port with Konami’s development tools at the time, and on top of that the game did not meet sales expectations. (Gradius was a huge arcade game, so Konami expected it to sell 1~2 million copies; when the disappointing results came in, the rumor is that Hashimoto received a public scolding.) Hashimoto would continue working as a developer for the following 4 or 5 years before moving up the ladder at Konami, and in this and other interviews I get the feeling that he had bittersweet memories of the time.

I caught your reference at the start to "The Viper" from "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark!"

One of your best articles yet, if I may say so. Your point about human beings making things we love, not corporations, was beautifully made.
