For the first story, if your reasoning for something is "someone else won't like it" or "someone else won't be comfortable with it", it's best to get that person in on the discussion. Better to hear it straight from them instead of assuming things. If you are the one against that thing, then own up to it. You won't have to make any assumptions. You can also decide what compromise works best for you or even if you aren't willing to compromise at all. And as always, talking it through is what's important, regardless of the outcome.
