Let's Talk About These Higher Goals...
🕑 Added 2017-07-07 12:25:02 +0000 UTC Hey all,So you may have noticed we've reached the $540 goal and are now working on the $2,000 goal. First of all - wow! Thanks for all the generosity and support. You're all amazing and I literally could not be doing this without you.
Now, we've reached a $540 goal which touts Photo Comics. Yeah, I can do those. I've toyed around with them a bit. But something I've noticed is that the images I have legally licensed access to give me...limited room to story tell. I could do one about petrification in an art studio...one about the Midas touch in an art studio...one about someone getting "jaded" in an art studio...you get the idea. I love statue TFs, but I much more prefer to tell a story that allows for more exploration of subject and location.
Now, I could ask if you all want to have another page added to TIME AND AGAIN or HELD WITHIN. We COULD do that. We'd just run another poll and (presuming the Goal holds) we'd start getting more pages possibly even next month.
But there is one other idea I've been mulling about. One so absurd I've been wary to even let myself imagine it, let alone discuss it. And it would require us to raise the $540 Goal to a new level.
I could start a new project with Portal Comic.
I want to stress NEW there, I'd have to provide a script for a new comic to them (which I have ready to go, and would have replaced HELD WITHIN when it ends). And they are in popular demand so I don't know what the posting schedule would be. But I did recently talk with them again on a whim and they said they'd be eager to work with me once more.
Regarding the Goal, we'd have to consider some options because they cost 3 TIMES more per-page than some artists I have worked with. We'd either set the $540 goal to the new amount (which I need to check and confirm), or maybe start adding a new page to an existing comic with the caveat that if a newly added Goal that offsets the cost difference is achieved that new page is dropped and the Portal Comic project begins.
Okay, that's a lot. I'll open this up to some discussion in the comments. Let me know thoughts, feedback, ideas, whatever. You've given me so much, I want to make sure you all get the chance to determine what next you'd want to get back.

I've updated the language of the $540 goal to reflect a discretionary nature while we talk this out. We're still close enough that the month-end closure may make all of this moot anyway if we drop down below it.

Crap, need to remember to hold Shift+Enter! I guess no one is excited about photo comics, which I am sort of glad to hear. A lot of work for a limited amount of output. For those who do not know Portal Comic's style, or my CG experience, I have posted two images to the $5+ tier so you can take a look. I have no problem doing CG work, but I don't feel I have a good selection of options. I suppose that would be what the money from the new tier would go towards - buying better models and locations for bigger stories. I just want to make sure people feel they are getting their money's worth. Illustrating stories is a possibility, but requires a bit of turn-around, unless we have readers request illustrations to ones I have already written. This would NOT be a new donor tier. I'd add it to an existing one, probably $5. I think we all benefit from having affordable options that allows EVERYONE to benefit from more people joining us. That is the magic of Patreon. Also, is there something I could provide which would help me/us share what is here and possibly bring more people to enjoy it? We all benefit from more Patrons and I want to make sure I am doing the most I can to help bring in new readers. I think that's enough for now...thoughts?

I can't contribute more so I'm guessing your question is to those who want more? I'm really enjoying cards & the game. Add more pictures to your written stories? Have a choose your own adventure & have a pole at the end of each segment. Users decide (from your options) where the story goes next. Only people of a certain contribution level get to vote. (It's a d$&k move, but some folks might upgrade) Keep up the great work.

I'd prefer either a PortalComic or more Held Within. So maybe your last option: do more Held Within until you reach whatever that higher goal, has to be, and then convert it into a PortalComic page-by-page thing? Also wouldn't mind a 3D comic thing, actually, as asdf suggests.

To be blunt the photoshopped images option sounds a bit boring, would rather see more Held Within. Haven't come across anything by portal comics before, so can't really say much about that possibility. Have you thought about 3D comics? Personally i love the style of Tecknophyle and sturkwurk and they have both dabbled with TF in their works.
