Lol MFT ( marriage family therapist) here when trying to find a therapist go in with a open mind don’t think to much about it first session are very simple just introducing yourself and the therapist introducing themselves I always remind making a goal list of things you feel you want to work on before your first session and going from there don’t think you have to get deep into it just off the first couple sessions take your time and give yourself a at least month before adding new things!

1. I’m a therapist. 2. You start therapy wherever you want. They will ask you questions and you can answer those questions as in depth as you want. You also don’t have to answer them at all. 3. It takes you a few sessions to see if you and a therapist will have a vibe/good working relationships. 4. You can laugh with a therapist or crack a joke. It’s not a sterile environment. Your session is your time to talk about things in a way that’s most comfortable for you.

James I was terrified of therapy but honestly it unlocked healing I didn’t even know I fucking needed. Prob less emotional for men. I hyper ventilated cry the first 6 sessions. However it brought to my attention of habits I need to tap into to and things just went UP from there. If they ask why you are here, tell them the truth. I don’t fucking know they will take it from there 👌🏻 Good Luck with what ever you chose.

I lost my therapist due to financial issues on my end and now it’s like do I figure out how to get back to my therapist or lose the last two years of progress and start over with a new one?! I don’t know if the James and Fuhad read messages but I’ll give a little enlightenment when it comes to therapy. Example, if you are struggling with anxiety, you want to research a therapist that specializes in that field of care. You can also do a sub search if you want a male vs female, young vs old, race and or religion, you name it! There are so many options for you to narrow down your needs in hopes to avoid getting someone you don’t vibe with. Also your first meeting with a therapist is just that, a meet and greet, a getting to know you better and them better. Of course when you schedule that appt, you are indicating why you want treatment, like anxiety with work. So when you first meet your therapist, they will reinforce why you are there and ask leading questions to get you to open up to them about your troubles. That’s your role, not the therapist to tell you what’s wrong. You need to convey why you are there and they will help you discover the skills and strengths you have already instilled in you to help you over come what you believe are your hardships. THEY WONT KNOW WHY YOU ARE THERE UNLESS YOU TELL THEM! You have to say something to them in order for them to help you. They aren’t mind readers. A good therapist is not going to just give you the answers. Additionally, Therapy is not a one off, there are so many different types of therapy so that’s why you need to find a therapist who specializes for your type of trouble you are experiencing, like anxiety or depression. Also Depending on the type of therapy you choose and or the number of sessions you agree upon, will determine how fast pace or slow pace your care is with a therapist. A good therapist is there to listen to you, validate you and help YOU arrive to answers for your life. If this is something you guys have been really thinking about I encourage you to seek cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT! Its very patient focus and care from your therapist to you. It’s all about changing how you think thus changing your behaviors. I believe in you 💜
