Ricky in the 1980s looked like the people from that era.👏 As a woman in my 60s who was at College and then University in the 1980s. That was my era! I LOVE that Decade. Best ever. An era of extremes: I would attend a few formal plush Balls in lovely expensive Ball Gowns👗👗 at exclusive places in London, Bournemouth etc with my adoptive dad and the next time you saw me - I was at a Night Club - "Xenon" at Piccadilly or Stringfellows in Central London, with College friends, my best friend etc It was an era when men and women wore dramatic makeup. Some men wore more Make Up than us women. LOL!💄💅 We had fantastic Music from all genres from greats like: Daryl Hall & Oats; Michael Jackson; Kool and the Gang; Annie Lennox to Boy George! (When Boy George first came on our screens, he left people perplexed wondering if he was male or female. Even though his gender was in his name! LOL!😅), We wore wonderful outlandish clothes (men and women alike - Unisex). BUT MOST OF ALL - Our SHOULDER PADS - could match or outmatch (depending on how far you wanted to go) - any American Footballer's shoulder pads any day! 🏈AND we LOVED our shoulder pads. The BIGGER the better. LOL!! I would dance on my stiletto heels for hours and be back at College studying for my Law Exams. I don't know what we were thinking walking, dancing, running on those DEADLY stilettos heels. I may have paid for that - because almost 40 years on, I have had a full hip replacement and mobilise with a walking stick! Shocking - for someone who was once an athlete🏃‍♀️. Hence why it was no big deal - dancing on those things - with ease. Today's stilettos are much better, they have a platform where the toes are, so your feet are not bent at such an angle like we had back in the day! Back in the day, when I think of it now - we were literally walking on our toes - with those stiletto heels. YIKES!👠 WE LOVED our Shoulder pads - So much so - women had EXTRA shoulder pads they purchased, which they could stuff under the large ridiculous pads that already came with their outfits! LOL!! I don't know what we were thinking😂. Alexis Farrington of 'Dynasty' - eat your heart out! LOL!! We loved her outfits though!! LOL!!🤣 It was also a time wonderful Night Clubs like Xenon in Central London, Piccadilly existed. I LOVED Xenon. It was classy, women could go in alone (so we felt safe) and men could only enter if they had partners. Even if they were granted entry, the men had to be smartly dressed - with ties and all.🕴 So a lot of us women - mostly Undergraduates and professional women who worked in the City etc - could go and dance to our hearts content (around our handbags 👜👛LOL!), without being harassed by guys! 💃🕺 Xenon Night Club, was a place that had all Races in attendance - but mostly whites as well. I took a male friend there one evening. I'm black he's white. He complained that each time he went to the Gents - men would walk past and nastily whisper- "PIG!"🐖 It was strange for a so called posh place. He wasn't a Police Officer but people assumed he was. He looked like one: Cropped hair (in an era white men wore their hair long or had the mullet); 6'5" or 6' 6" etc. We couldn't understand the venom levelled against him from blacks & whites! Anyway we came out at closing time (4am to 5am), to hear that Brixton Race Riots had been in full flow with clashes from the Police. So although we were in this "haven" - people of all races had been triggered by his presence. Thinking he was a Police Offcer👮‍♂️🚔 and the men of all races would whisper "Pig" 🐽each time he walked past. The people in the Club hated the Police and the active ongoing Race Riots going on Miles away - triggered them. Yikes! It got to the point where he said he felt like screaming: "I'm not a copper!". For a posh do, he would have got a dirty look. Poor sod. He was so sad😢. I saw prejudice from the otherside. A white guy hated by all because people wrongly assumed he was a cop!🫣 We did go back again and thank God - it never happened again! Aside from this, Xenon Night Club, was also a place where, a new unknown Music ACT, was introduced to the dancing Night Clubbers. They went their primarily to promote their Act. I remember one night, right in the middle of some wonderful dance beat, they stopped it and introduced a new female act from America. They were trying to promote her act. She gave us her album, her photo etc, she looked shy but when she started singing and dancing - she BLEW US AWAY! We clapped👏, enjoyed her music, danced, we were encouraged to remember her name and support her. That always happened at Xenon, Piccadilly. They would stop the loud pounding Music - so we had no choice but to stop dancing. Then they would announce a new act from America or Britain etc and this person would get on the side stage and dance to their songs. We would clap and could not wait to get back to dancing. This time however - We were a bit disappointed when the Music on the dance floor started pounding again. Which meant - it was time to get back on the dance floor. This lady who had just sang and DANCED - boy! This lady from America🇺🇸 - could dance! PHEW! Simply Awesome. We could have carried on watching her! I remember before she left the stage, my eyes locked with hers - I think she could see how impressed I was. Also, I liked her, not only was she about my age - unlike other Acts I had seen when I had gone to that Night Club, she stood out!! I liked her instantly. Anyway, the earth shaking pounding music was put back on and we kept dancing, and this amazing lady who had just sung and danced her heart out - left the stage. Just over two years later a familiar music kept being played on the Radio etc and I thought. 'That sounds familiar...'. Also why does she look so familiar?! It was the young lady we had been encouraged to support. She had literally EXPLODED unto the scene and had (what seemed like OVERNIGHT), become a world wide global sensation and super star. I went to look at the signed photo etc. we had been given at Xenon Night Club. It was the same woman, same music - the unknown person the DJ had begged us to support as she came on the stage to dance. Her name? The one and only - MADONNA Great times!!👍🤌❤️

I have started watching "This Country". It is funny - loved The Tattoo thing!! LOL!!!! When she looked at the camera after seeing the drawings in the album, I actually screamed with laughter and when they took off, that was funny. However, when she got home later and was told the tattooist was waiting for her - My heart actually jumped and skipped a bit from shock and fear. LOL! However I did nod off at some point - but to be fair - I was tired! So shall pick it up again. I think I nodded off during Episode 4 with the Sales Person and they trying to raise money. The last thing I remembered was them sitting on the side of the street and two teenagers trying to purchase stuff from the two main characters. . I'll be honest, I started watching Episode One, and started thinking - "James is a GREAT story Teller and his Recommendations are AMAZING! However, what the HECK am I watching? Since I have never been disappointed by his recommendations (bar - their choice of Animes, which I don't watch), I'll stick with this and hope I see what he sees, because so far, it's like pulling teeth". Then it slowly started picking up and I soon took to the two main characters. However, if James had not recommended this, I would have watched a few minutes of Episode One and switched Channels pronto. So I'll keep watching. As I have laughed a few times and I'm sure it will get funnier. Trusting James on this. I prefer the main female character - I like the guy too, but maybe because I'm female - she carries the Show - I think. Hate the snake in her room though. Every time she sits on her bed, I'm listening but staring at that horrible fake snake on her shelf. Wondering, why anyone would want that in their bedroom. It is such a distraction. On a lighter note, I cannot wait to see the face of her VERY LOUD mum! LOL!!! I LOVE "UK Office". I tried watching an Episode of "US Office" one day I was scrolling through Channels. I saw "US Office" and thought: "I love the UK version, and I love American Comedies - this will be funny!". It wasn't and within minutes, I was so put off, I just kept scrolling, looking for something else to watch. So I have never seen "US Office". I too love our dry British humour. I can't remember the name of this Comedy on BBC2 - it was about Staff in a News Room! FUNNNNNY! One of the casts, acts in "Downtown Abbey". Sadly it has not been shown since 2015. Very dry humour but exquisitely funny. To be honest - funnier than "UK Office!" Edit: OMG! did Fuhad just say - the main female character is the mum shouting from upstairs as well?! How?! Btw Fuhad, please give "UK Office" a go - you will LOVE it. Shocked as to the amount of Office Franchises. WOW!
