RE: Paul Brickman & Deal Of The Century, (the worst film by Willian Friedkin, one of my favorite directors), Brickman was going to direct DOTC before Risky Business reshoots got in the way. Friedkin - despite calling Brickman’s script the best screenplay he’d ever read - re-wrote almost every scene. Brickman disowned the script & refuses to discuss the film. Though he didn’t even mention DOTC in his autobiography, Friedkin would often perversely claim that it was his favorite of his career. Thankfully he followed up this spectacular disaster with my all-time favorite picture, To Live And Die In L.A.
