It can work but the tinting strength is much higher.

can I use cad red light as I dont have vermillion and the only other red I have is Alizarin Crimson

You can definitely do that. I use titanium white when I am painting alla prima. I would suggest though, that the low tinting strength is not a weakness in all respects. It can be quite useful in places.

If tinting strength of lead white is not so great, why not sneak in titanium for this light overall value painting?
