Definitely start applying light and shadow based upon the source image. In the best case scenario a great structural block in will help you understand how the light should work. Eventually blending the source image with how the light is actually working it's a great way to test your structural analysis.

Hi Stephen, I've watched several of your structural block-in videos and have practiced drawing them using the photos you've provided. The instruction has been great, but I find myself unsure of how to take the drawing further; that is, how to apply values to the wire frame I've just constructed. Should I arbitrarily pick a direction for the light source and then infer what the light and dark shapes would be based on the planes of the head? Should I reference the photograph (with its multiple light sources) and try to mimic some of the shapes it has? Do you have a video that addresses this? I like the structural method because I attend a weekly portrait session where it's virtually impossible to do a visual block-in because the room has light coming from several different sources—skylights, windows, and artificial lamps. With that in mind, how would you suggest I handle the light source under these conditions?

Nothing you can do about updates screwing up your programs. Happens all the time. Obviously if you have computer problems we can wait until it is fixed. I'm sure if it is not fixed by the 30th, you will send your feed along as soon as you can. You have posted so much content I haven't even gotten to read.
