This is insane and perfect!! My AP Fine Art exam was a white parcel, tied with a white string, on a white sheet background. I ended up treating it like this and got perfect marks!! If I remember correctly, there was a significant amount of ink applied with a brush and powdered charcoal. I still can't believe I was so bold at a moment that it mattered so much 😵‍💫

This is one of the most eye opening art videos I’ve ever seen and I’m not being hyperbolic. What a freaking great exploration experiment. This is inspiring me!!

Chris

wow this is fantastic. I've seen a lot of sphere demonstrations and this is by far the most exciting! Thank you for this!!

Sonica Odendaal

Love it. There is more expression and feeling in rendering a sphere in this manner. Can’t wait for the workshop in two months time.

Aaron

I would second this. Also maybe just the basic 3d shapes. Sphere, cubes, pyramids

Great and informative content once again! Thank you for this one. As I haven't really found a personalized style yet, this video helped me understand that everything is not about perfection all the time and sometimes we just have to jump feet first in order to allow our brains to break free from our norms. By being free, I believe, is how we find our style. So far I have just tried to emulate everything I see.

Showman show ;o)

I have never been so on my seat edge watching a piece of Patreon content, full stop. This is the most exciting, daring tutorial I’ve ever watched. Can’t wait to get in the studio.

Loving this series, it's giving me a fresh perspective - a real eye opener in terms of the possibilities for mark making. I'm thinking of it as a dance between texture and unity... Are these choices just intuition, i.e. pushing the boundaries to see what you can get away with... or are there specific opportunities to push the texture?

Sascia Schümperli

Oh. wooooow. I love this style.

Believe me, it was just as fun for me to make 😊

It varies between brands of graphite, but it's realistic to expect some level of graphite shine for any very dark application. Eventually, it's just part of the material.

Random thought: Would it be possible to include a conceptual sphere into the head study app?

Nancy

I was blown away with the sphere creativity!! It was like I was in a way back machine watching Picasso worked up discovering Cubism. It was so fun! I have been carefully learning the fine rendering of the classical tradition but I cannot wait to try my hand at this. How fun was this? Thanks

Samvel

Hi Stephen, Whenever I apply such a deep value, I tend to get a graphite shine. It seems that no matter how careful and slow I am with my application, there’s always some shine left on the paper. When you apply these values, is there a typical level of shine to expect, or is there a technique to completely eliminate it? Thank you for your advice and amazing content as always

amazing Stephen!! Nice lesson. I hope there are lessons about Light & forms. Thanks🙌
