In my headcanon, I always said that metal benders can't bend platinum because it's "pure". The first time we see Toph bending metal, you can see things that look like impurities in the metal

Explanation for the finger thing: It's not uncommon for artists who use an anime-esque style to do this, usually because it looks good. You'd be surprised how often people's hands actually fall into this position (well, their fingers anyway), it's easier to draw too. Quick to draw + good looking aesthetically = frequently used

I don’t think there’d be human hybrids of anything because animal dna The hand thing i feel like is a trick studios use to save money so like we know it’s basically 5 fingers but it’s counted as 4 in the final mark up because they’re connected

best part of the whole platinum shenanigans is that it makes no sense with what metal bending is. Damascus Steel makes sense because the folding gets rid of the earth impurities that makes metal bending possible. this is just regular ass platinum though.

i thought that the idea of them not being able to bend platinum was good, i mean Sure you can look at it like all metal is metal but in Airbender all that the gang really bent was steel, i personally like the idea that metal mending works differently on different metals
