Now that you’ve fully reviewed both shows, there is but one final question that needs answered: What is the complete “full-moon to not-full-moon” ratio in the show?

Monkeyzone

from what i know theres tons to overanalyze but yeah not worth the 200 episodes for 1 dominoe to fall

Well at the end of the day you can't explain away aesthetic problems. If something doesn't look right to people it just doesn't look right. It never clashed for me personally, but I can see how it would for others. What really got to me on first watch was the movement, and the control scheme. This thing should not move this well.

Piro

true, videos would be 1 minute long 😭

Maxi Channel

with the slow pacing there's nothing to overanalyze :\

Piro

over analyze one piece, you will never stop having episodes, infinite content

Great series!

Bodhacious

Patreon shoutouts were suitably bangin for the finale. Excited to see what comes next. Thanks for another great overanalysis

Thank you for taking a nuanced look at this show. I love Korra and that'll never change but I'm so tired of the discourse being "THIS IS THE WORST THING EVER AND I'M GONNA MAKE A DOCUMENTARY LENGTH VIDEO EXPLAINING WHY" on one side versus "IM GONNA MAKE AN EVEN LONGER VIDEO RATIONALIZING EVERY SINGLE PLOTHOLE" on the other. This show was flawed, and I lay a lot of that at the feet of the creation process being more fragmented and weird than Airbender but even that wouldn't be the cause of every writing blunder or questionable plot decision. But even at it's worst Korra was always entertaining to watch, and I think what we were given was still an above average show for any kids network. Even though you dished out a lot of criticism for this show I never felt like you were being overly harsh for the sake of it or being completely unfair, and it's very refreshing to see.

If you want to overanalyze another show, may I suggest She-Ra and the Princesses of Power?

Jimmith

I second this

I think it looking weird and its frame rate are the least of its problems. You pointing out how it's more of an Eastern culture thing is cool, but I don't think it makes it any more believable in terms of scale and whether or not it belongs in the world. I think the scale is just too far-fetched, especially with just Kuveria alone controlling it. If they made an extra effort to show more people controlling it at a time it might have been more believable, like 1 or 2 people in each arm and leg all working together to make this giant work. I think that would fix the issue of the scale but I just don't think it belongs still.

Gotta say I'm excited for the new videos. Don't me wrong I love Korra and Avatar as much as the next guy but I think your videos about other stuff like bigfoot, Aliens, ghosts, etc are probably your best. Looking forward to more videos like that. Keep up the great videos brother

Wendy Adams

I do have to defend the colossus a bit. Giant robots are a techno fantasy of eastern cultures. Id like to think that if Japan won the atomic race, it would have been in the form of some humanoid robot. instead of bombs and rocket ships. there would have been an attempt to make Gundams and lasers. I can see why it feels like a push but to me it's more of a twilight zone technology from the east. it's using mostly analog technology, so I can suspend my disbelief that it wouldn't just fall over and fail immediately. But yeah, it looks weird because 3d model with weird frame rate

Patrick McCarron

His ranking of best to worst seasons of Korra I think lol

3142?

I don’t think the lack of overt romanticism in Korrasami is actually the issue. Beyond it definitely not being possible on 2014 Nickelodeon, I don’t think those romantic cues are really necessary to still give off a feeling that two people belong together. The real issue is that Asami is cardboard. Their chemistry doesn’t feel natural because Asami doesn’t feel like a natural character. Because she’s not; she was originally a villain that the writers jury rigged into being a core member of the show, despite having nothing to give her. Thanks for doing these man. Had a lot of fun

Great vid! Thoughts on doing this kind of analysis on Invincible? I love that show but would love to watch a breakdown of the more nuanced themes n shit. Big Love homeslice <3

Man when I was watching the premiere of this episode live I ALSO yelled at my laptop because I ALSO get really excited about being right. But also, Mako should have died. I get why he didn’t, but the sacrifice was played up so much just for it not to really be one—Bolin saves him, but like you said, we don’t have any emotional setup where that feels satisfying, either.

In chess, a gambit is when you sacrifice a pawn in the first few moves to quickly get all your pieces out, take up the center or restrict your opponent's movement. Basically, you let your opponent win something to develop your own attack faster. Attacking the city with a giant robot is not a gambit, mostly because Kuvira's army is already mobilized (this is just an attack) but especially because didn't see her take a military risk to bring it about.

You are too smart to be over analyzing Korra you notice too many problems

Just got through the end of this video, bittersweet seeing it come to the end, but looking forward to the review and what comes next

klemens023

its crazy that Korra is now done too! Looking forward to your next stuff (also would be cool to hear your thoughts on seven havens now that it's officially confirmed wink wink)
