I always thought air bending didn't need a unique power. Mainly because unlike every other element air benders can't run out of air really. Earth and water need, well, earth and water. And fire requires heat. So there were places where those elements functionally couldn't be bent at all. But air never had this problem because, realistically, how are you going to keep air benders away from the air without killing them which solves that problem entirely? Plus, this doesn't really solve any concerns about the power balance. I mean they might achieve immortality like Iroh, but it doesn't counter or balance the other special cases which are almost entirely combat related.

Anyone else thought the sound of combustion bending was different bc of the genders like hers sounds a bit more concussive than combustive, also my absolute favorite scene ever in ATLA was when combustion man revealed himself to the gang idk why everything about it was lit, like the subtle drums getting louder and louder up until it’s completely silent for a while gives me the goosebumps chefs kiss

Funnily, I like Lyn's line about "they're like nothing you've ever faced before". The Red Lotus isn't like Kaijunalaq. They're a black ops hit squad. Sort of like Amon but still a very different type of threat. Her line doesn't necessarily apply to scale of the threat, IMO.

The airbender's tattoos glow because of the ink used, it's chakra sensitive. Id the combustionbender avatar had ink made with those it would sure as heck glow since it's on the same spot the airbender arrow is on the forehead.

I swear it was mentioned in the original show that the tattoos moved energy and connected the chakras, Which is why the lightning scary physically cuts off with the scar. That portion of his chakra is blocked. And masters only get the. because they are able to control spiritual and bending powers at a better capacity. The tattoo clearly has something to do with spiritual energy as they glow when aang goes into the avatar state. So there is a idea of tattoos being able to manipulate energy so I still think the tattoo is at least amplifying fire bending through the chakra

I always thought that when Bolin is summarizing his time with his family that the line about the earth Queen and lying was about how their grandma was in love with the earth Queen and how they pretending to support her as well. I never got the sense that he somehow knew what was going on with Korra

Air bending tattoos are to support connecting the chakras? Where do you get that from? I'm not saying it's wrong, I just never heard that before. Aang had never heard of chakras and he had the tattoos and if it's supposed to help, why do only masters get them?

This season is already doing way better than both s1 and s2 just on the basis that 1) Korra and company feel like heroes, and have goals separate from just “defeat the bad guys” 2) The villains have interesting motives that aren’t totally known (like Amon was early on) and feel pretty threatening to the main cast in a way neither Amon nor Unalaq did. But the astral projection thing might honestly be my least favorite thing from LoK, including the goofy kaiju battle to end s2

Different combustionbenders have different levels of power and skill, just like any other bending (this is a plot point in the novels, when one combustionbender considers himself the most valuable because he has more raw power than the others.)
