Blooper (kinda)
🕑 Added 2023-03-29 10:46:27 +0000 UTCI was searching for a suitable blooper for this month (sorry for being so late, btw. Had a violent case of stomach flu I'd rather not dwell too deep into) but I didn't find anything interesting enough to share. So, instead of a blooper, I decided to share with you some possible plans I've had for Hati's powers.
So, magical systems are hard. If you give too much power to the characters, people start to wonder why they won't just swirl some fireballs at the enemy and be done with it. Like, is that the Emperor? Now it's barbeque.
I have a set of laws for the gods, and I like to keep the magical elements to a minimum. The curse of balding is a nice little trick, could be considered a coincidence but is actually Hati's doing. There was this list I encountered that had lowkey druidic abilities that could work in a low-fantasy setting. It included:
- bees are drawn to the druid
- the druid can encourage the fire to slightly grow or diminish
- people are keener on opening up to the druid
- the druid can predict weather changes
- a lot more could be brainstormed. Little things.
There is an instance when Hati can possibly get more powerful in their druidic abilities, and I was wondering if it would come up in some of these ways. Could be fun. Will have to think about this. Also, would like to hear your thoughts, too!

I had the thought, instead of Hati going bald, you could have something like a magic hangover, like they wake up feeling sick and run down. Or you could go full body horror and have Hati vomiting up hair! Especially if they don't have a good relationship with Cernunnos and their druidry while trying to use it to curse someone else.

At least none of that will be an issue for my Hati cause he was like "no way in the world I'm not cursing you"

I agree that it would be really cool! I've been thinking about the ability to communicate with animals, or at least make them really friendly with Hati? Something like that. Talking might be a bit OP but will have to see where I end up. (There probably will be shapeshifting in the story though, we'll see!)

I feel like looking at the rituals of modern druids and Celtic shamans would be a good place to start for the magic if you hadn't already looked into it. I was thinking as well, principles of modern paganism, like doing selfish magic has an effect that bounces back on you. Like say you did magic to make someone else sick, then you'd get sick too. Like little things have little costs, but big things have big costs.

I really like that the abilities are correlated with nature! I wonder if the MC could potentially shape shift later down the road? Nothing major like a bear lol! But possibly a bird, cat, dog etc. Or maybe Hati has more influence on animals? It could be an interesting explanation as to why they get along with Robus and Tinsae's cat (if you choose to do so in game). I don't know if these fit into a low-fantasy setting but I thought they'd be pretty cool. หถแต แต แตหถ

I don't know enough about the magic in your world to give any forms of suggestions, but I like that sort of... low-key powers of sorts. Though having Hati become stronger for later parts in the story could be interesting!
