I want to talk today about the Deluxe Transcripts for The Magnus Archives and where we currently stand with those. I know these have proved popular and those of you at the Rusty Noble level have all been waiting very patiently for their return. I've mentioned previously that we're looking into ways to bring them back, but that it's proving difficult.
As Rusty Quill grows and produces more shows, there is a pull on many fronts to make sure that they are being properly produced, and that you all as fans paying to support us get the bonus content that we have promised. However, making sure that we can actually make this extra material takes a fair amount of time too, and since most of the crew have full-time jobs & obligations outside of Rusty Quill, that time is at a premium. Which is why we are looking at revising our Patreon offerings to ensure that, above all, the rewards we offer are high-quality and, most importantly, sustainable to produce. There's little point in us setting up a long-term plan or offering a high-concept item if we end up burning out within a couple of months.
But what does this mean for the Deluxe Transcripts? Well, back when we set up our Patreon, we were pretty confident that Jonny could do these alongside his other writing & performing, without them impacting significantly. Unfortunately, that has proven to be not case, and as the draws on the time of those involved in the project have increased, it is clear that they were unsustainable in their current form. We have tried multiple times to get them back on track, and were very hopeful that bringing a graphic designer on board would solve our problems. Spoiler - it didn't.
To be perfectly candid with you all, we do not have a timeframe for when Deluxe Transcripts will return. There is also the possibility that they won't, but we are not ready to close that door as yet. At this point, with 120+ episodes, this is a massive undertaking and even putting out 2 a month (if that were feasible) doesn't dent the backlog any time soon. So, it is likely there will be changes to the scope of the project to make it manageable and sustainable. I am hoping that I can give you all a more definitive answer soon.
We also appreciate that these were a significant draw to supporting for many folk, and if you feel that you can no longer pledge (either at all or at this level), that is perfectly fine. We understand. We don't want to mislead you, or overpromise & underdeliver any more. When we finally do reveal our new Patreon plan, we hope that you will see that there are appropriate benefits at whatever level you choose to support us, covering all of our shows, and at a more regular release schedule (particular for those at the Rusty Noble tier).

Same. I so enjoy all the content you guys produce that $10 a month seems more than fair to enjoy three great shows. Everything else is gravy!

That is one of the ideas under consideration. Advantage being that by that point, the show will be over and most of the work on the TRPG should be done, so Jonny may have more time to dedicate to this. We've released the first six deluxe transcripts on here, quite early on in the bonus schedule. Admittedly Patreon might not make them that easy to find...

I'm wondering if you guys would consider waiting till the series has fully wrapped before tackling Deluxe Scripts? TMA is so intricate that I think the earlier scripts might benefit from having some form of reference to later developments, i.e., spoilery content. I've been a patron for a while but don't recall seeing any Deluxe Scripts (have any been released yet?) so I don't know how that aspect would fit the current format (like, not necessarily a flashing arrow when Michael first appears). just a suggestion. Like others have said, I'm here to support and show my appreciation for all of your hard work. Thank you for all that you do!

I only learned about the Deluxe Transcripts from this post, so I won’t miss them (although I’ll look for the existing ones now!). I subscribe because I want the podcast to keep going; the extras are just very nice bonuses. Thanks for keeping us all in the loop!

Same here. MAG is unlike anything out there and you guys are freaking brilliant. The thought of Rusty Quill podcasts stopping ever is my greatest fear - hey, the actual 15th power!!! Fear of no Rusty Quill! Lol. And honestly, I prefer the behind the scenes related bonuses more than anything. They’re work porn and far more interesting to me. :-D

That is a very kind offer, and in fact, we have had a fan helping out on doing that. The problem at the moment lies with me, because I have to do the final pass on that work and get it formatted correctly. All of which takes time, which I have not had much of to date. I am hoping to be able to reprioritise my time this month to work on them.

Let me preface this by saying my pledge won't change regardless of the quality of transcript. That said, is there some way the fan community can help clear the backlog? I'm not good at transcribing from scratch, but if I had a script, I could make corrections pretty easily.

I only found out about all the Rusty Quill shows recently so I didn't even know there were deluxe transcripts (still not sure what makes then better than regular transcripts?). But anyways, really love the shows and I'm definitely not going to pull my pledge over this, lol.

I for one absolutely adore the Deluxe Transcripts we have and would be thrilled to see them back, but this changes absolutely nothing to my enthusiasm in supporting and my happiness with what we are getting :) (though i'd probs be supporting even without any bonus content) Really appreciate the transparency though! Y'all are good. Also REALLY WORRIED OVER THE TITLES, as usual;;;;;;;

The regular transcript backlog is definitely a priority and once our AGM is out of the way this week, I am going to get that back on track properly.

Well, I'm very disappointed that the Deluxe Transcripts aren't in the cards. But by no means do I intend to stop supporting. RQ puts out great content and while the Deluxe Transcripts were an enticing bonus, they weren't why I pledged to begin with. That said, I really would appreciate regular transcripts, for TMA at least. I've been bugging you guys about them for nearly a year now and while I understand that they're a time commitment and am beginning to feel self-conscious about asking, I think they're vital for something with as many characters, subtle references and foreshadowing as Magnus. Maybe those would be a nice compromise? I also hold out hope that a Magnus Archives book will eventually be published after the show wraps, which would be a hell of a transcript in and of itself!

Same here. The podcasts deserve it and I can afford it. Any bonus is just a bonus; please don't feel like you need to take away from more important things for the sake of bonuses.
