as someone with severe somatic delusions and hypochondria, every time i have a panic attack i am positive i am going to die this time from some body failure. i listen to this episode to calm myself down. surprisingly, danika dying is very soothing and has always managed to calm me down

I'm not convinced they are balm. Every time something like that comes up I see it less as cute, and more as evidence of doubt/inequality/toxicity/dependency and other unhealthy relationship tropes. They were only together for a few weeks in relative calm (still with tonnes of baggage, and still with possibly their getting together coming from a stressful and isolated work environment), and everything since then has been a pretty unequal power dynamic even if it's unintentional. And Annabelle's not helping.

reading up on Patsy Cline (as one does at 1:40a), and came across this: https://www.bard.org/study-guides/knowing-of-your-own-death Specifically this bit - 'As stated in the Nassour biography, Patsy Cline, friends Dottie West and June Carter Cash both recalled Cline telling them that she felt a sense of impending doom and didn't expect to live much longer in the months leading up to her death. Cline also told Loretta Lynn of this, along with Carter and West, as early as September 1962. Cline, though known for her extreme generosity, even began giving away personal items to friends, writing out her own last will on Delta Air Lines stationery and asking close friends to care for her children if anything should happen to her. She reportedly told Jordanaire back up singer Ray Walker as she exited the Grand Ole Opry a week before her death: "Honey, I've had two bad ones (accidents). The third one will either be a charm or it'll kill me." ' I bet Danika Gelsthorpe would have been a Patsy Cline fan.

Since the season began, I've feared, not just for the survival of Jon and Martin themselves, but also the survival of their relationship. I mean, this kind of stress could break up even the strongest of relationships! Things like the "you're my reason" exchange last time and Martin getting upset, not for any powers or horror reason, but due to plain old jealousy, are some balm.

I rather like these subtle movements some of the avatars are taking to "not side" but to allow the Archivist to pass through while giving him just enough information to help his ultimate cause. Plus Martin jealous was adorable as hell. And The Archivist's giggling at it was precious.

Barely 5 minutes in and I can't contain my love for Martin anylonger. I'm so happy they told us how Martin was by Jon's bedside for weeks since the only thing we knew about him during that time was that he had joined up with Peter Lukas, and it had left me wondering. (Also a jealous murder!Martin is all I could have ever wished for, eheheheh xD) On to the rest of the ep!! ETA: Brilliant! This ep was a direct answer to the question I had about the unsustainability of the fear!scapes. I'm very satisfied that they thought of this!

This is one of my favorite episodes to date and this just made Oliver my favorite avatar. For me, The End itself never felt evil because ultimate death is natural to life; it IS one of the oldest fears.

I think this was my favorite statement if not episode yet this season. The End is always guaranteed to creep me out, and I got confirmation of my “the apocalypse is not sustainable” theory. So yay to that! Although also . . . yikes for everyone involved. And I got to hear from Oliver again. I like Oliver!

The implications of this episode are scattering my wits. There are so many highly interesting routes for the End to take. It’s so confident in its own inevitability, but at the end of the day, it could very well be the same as any other fear—if the End could devour another fear, who’s to say that an entity like the Spiral wouldn’t try to get rid of the End first? If the rules pre-change have, well, changed, then I imagine that the only path for reality is to keep all the fears or submit to just one. Oliver’s confident in the End, sure, but so are the avatars of each entity. I think the End is just as likely to be swallowed up as it is to do the swallowing, but even it is so biased toward its own power that it gives further evidence as to why none of the fears ever succeeded in becoming supreme before the change.

I loved this! I really liked how Oliver was portrayed, and I thought the framing device of a coroner's note was a really smart way to do handle this episode's theme. I also really loved the point of death within a closed system being a potential problem for other entities- maybe there's something there with regards to how they could end things? Very interesting...

Jealous Martin is Best Martin. It's science. I just had a horrifying thought. What if The Web is aware of the predicament that Oliver described, and its plan is to use the House at Hilltop Road as a portal for the Fears to invade other realities when this one is almost used up? If there are infinite realities, then the Fears could invade them forever, like evil locusts.

Dare I say, this is my favorite so far?! It was not the most horrifying, definitely not! But the most... inevitable.... if all the powers can be destroyed one way or another, this is the only one that, even on the most infinitesimal level never can. Oh, and to rob a life of death is just as cruel as taking a life? YES! ❤️

This feels like a turning point. Have a feeling that the inevitable destruction all face in this closed system will encourage even the worst of enemies to join forces in trying to escape. A thought just came to me. The Magnus Institute was essentially one of the fixed domains of the Beholding, and the apocalypse shifted everything else to now be under its control. Elias/Jonah kept control over the people of the Institute by making it absolutely clear that the destruction of it or him would mean the destruction of them aswell - giving the illusion that there was no way to escape his control and live, that it would be futile to try. But. We now know that was a lie. That the death of the archivist (the archive?) does exactly the opposite, and releases the captives from its control. So - why wouldn't the same be true for this newly expanded domain of The Beholding?
