This is my favorite episode of the entire series. It is like looking in a mirror.
StaceyJess
I love this episode. Definitely in my top 5. After listening to the behind the scenes stuff I can just imagine Alex's reaction to this script.
Charida Belle
This hit pretty close to home for me but was also surprisingly soothing. It felt like a really delicate and nuanced way of looking at loneliness and guilt and just made me love Martin even more. I enjoy that it was framed as introspection-via-conversation. It was a great way to get the feelings out in the open and also a good setup for the potentially hard decisions that they're all gonna have to make towards the end.
LainyJP
I had a lot of trepidation going into this episode, as I'm feeling emotionally fragile myself. However, I found it to be oddly reassuring.....Martin addressing these huge, awful questions and scenarios that we all are anxious about makes me feel a lot better that he knows exactly what he is walking into, and is choosing to do it anyway. And his "Resolve" is so in line with him as a character. This was far less distressing than #170, Martin really being honest with himself, so that he won't be vulnerable when he faced Elias.
Weenie hut jr
yes i did jesus ALEXANDER!
Gilligan Mungus
You know what, Martin? Me too.
Mantha Grant
YESSS the character agency, the commitment to personal growth despite the knowledge that others will continue to suffer and cause suffering and our best-intended choices can still have unintended effects! Such a relevant and powerful theme; this episode was much-needed and I'd love to see a mirroring solo Jon episode in the same vein ;u;
Finn Patrick
alex deserves many awards for that performance tbh (also TOO REAL! THIS DOMAIN IS TOO REEEEALLLL)
Paola Ivanna
oh martin, there is no ethical consumption under fear capitalism
Sophia Smithers
That was a work of ART! So superbly narrated and I loved the foreshadowing. It also helped that I was drinking a cup of oolong tea! 😄
Sophia Smithers
Yup 🙁 I would say I’d see you there but *shrug*
Heather MacKenzie
That was both foreshadowing and brave. Even in the dark of this place, Martin is just a tiny pinprick of light and I love him for it. He might be the only "human" left in this hellscape.
Lurkin
Gosh Martin is an intriguing and complex character... I love the messy characters in this show

Poor Martin, why must you do this to my boy 😭 Also when Martin was talking to himself at the start reminded me of my anxiety brain
Sinclair Cross
This is the first episode that has emotionally touched me very strongly. A truly beautiful episode. Great job! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

This is exactly what I needed right now. I keep telling myself “you’re not alone in your loneliness” during these insane times and I echo what Ashley said. Unexpectedly made me feel seen and heard... and 8million other emotions too. Love this, love you all.
Jonah Lubnevsky
God, remember how early in the series, Jon made the recordings so he wouldn't be a mystery/forgotten..........
Jonah Lubnevsky
I... really don't know about this episode. I wish it touched more on whether Martin's fears and even identity in general connect to his domain's focus, and if so, how. I went into this episode assuming it would be more of a character study, but it ended up being more along the lines of "Martin gives himself life advice", not really Martin's-domain-specific at all. Hopefully the next episode will go into detail on this.
Nicky
I’m worried about John, since I’m pretty sure this is the domain he’d have ended up in if he wasn’t The Archivist... And Martin wondering where he is/thinking he’d have found him already by the end...

I joined the Patreon too late to get my name read out in the show, but really I feel like this beautifully written and performed episode does the job by delivering such a personal callout.

I don’t even know what to say this was just, an incredibly rock n roll episode all around. Absolutely fantastic, face smushed in my hands with emotion throughout, ready to write about my feelings in pink gel pen for hours about it. I want to actually make a good comment eventually this is just.....phew.

I think an extended introduction to 185 is a great idea. It's a fantastic episode that's received a lot of unfair criticism from people who haven't even read the transcript. I'm very glad you're still releasing it.
Terri
An outstanding performance along with an outstanding script. Thank you for this episode. It hits incredibly close to home for a lot of us, I imagine, especially in the times we live in. And it's an episode that, ironically, makes me feel Seen and Known in a good way. Other people Get It, and seeing that brought to life here means a lot.

Amazing episode!

Someone did this for me a couple of weeks ago so I’m happy to give you a quick rundown of what happened if you need it although I’m not sure how coherent it’ll be as I probably need to listen again. Message me on discord @Lulu_Lilith if you need.

mr. Sims here is... my heart 🥺🤲❤️ for giving us this gorgeous episode

hey?? this is amazing???? i can feel martin's anxiety about jon not finding him even though its never actually said. maybe thats just the way im interpreting it but WOAH super good job!!!!
Laure Gagnon-Tremblay
Mr Newall who gave you the right to be this good? And the writing of this episode!!!!! I am completely baffled
Anna S
This is an incredible episode. The writing, the voice acting, the soundscaping is all wonderfully done. It addressed a lot of stuff I've seen fans talk about and theorize about (should Martin have killed Elias, will one of them need to die, etc), and I really like how those questions were handled. I also love that after all the time travel AU fanworks, we finally get to see two Martins talking to each other. Lastly, the bit of the statement with the girl being surrounded by people who are just to the right of being friends hit very close to home.

This is fine... c:

OH NO. This was so well done, what an ingenious way to tackle this particular element. You guys broke my heart all over again but honestly, I've got used to that. Incredible work!
Owleics
I've finished listening and ive got a more accurate title 'martin gives himself therapy [ASMR]' Also the IDEA that jon will even consider killing martin.. i have to laugh. Good episode!!
ThirdFromTheLeft
I love how this continued with the idea of "even the fear is gentle here" raised in 159. Like Martin is facing all his worst fears - everything he dreads most finally pulled out into the open and yet it's gentle and almost soothing. A quiet, tragic acceptance rather than forceful panic. Also I like how Martin's ability to compartmentalize manifests as him talking to himself about things he already knew all along.
Juls SK Vernet
sometimes having a good long heart-to-heart with yourself, even if you have to face some unsavory truths, really leaves you exhausted but oddly calm
Deneb
Jonny, I really doubt you'll ever see this and I think it's a bit too shameful/indulgent for me to actually send it in email form or on twitter, so I kind of like those odds X) This is maybe my favorite episode out of all of TMA. It did everything a good tragedy should – it upset me, reached me on several personal levels and made me do some self reflection to an uncomfortable degree. It was beautifully told and wonderfully delivered by the double-performance of Alex, and it's going to stick with me for the rest of the week. Incredibly well done, Jonny. Thank you for sharing your art with us :]
Tatianna A
Excellent voice acting, excellent soundscape, excellent writing... excellent technique to tear me to pieces. Outstanding job as always.
