I think Martin knows that his options are 'stay with Jon' or 'be dead.' Also I'm not sure that constantly mocking him and trying to diminish him when Jon is trying to deal with a bunch of cosmic stuff is 'looking out.' Jon also doesn't really need looking out for. He's likely the only person in the whole story that doesn't seem to need looking out for as far as I can tell. Like, Jon says or does literally anything and Martin's like "OOOOOOOO WOWEEE You're soooooo powerful and cooooooooooooool" all sarcastically. I dunno. Not to mention that aside from saying things like 'I love you' there's basically zero affection or passion or even comeraderie between the two. Heck, even just plain tolerance of each others personalities. When they started dating in the show I went back and relistened to like 3 episodes prior because I thought I must have fallen asleep or something and missed the lead up. I try to imagine them kissing or holding hands and all I can imagine is Jon giving Martin one of those dad-style gentle knuckles on the chin and saying 'hang in there, kiddo.' Like, imagine them actually making love. Martin is all "You're not doing it properly!" and Jon is all "You don't know how hard this is for me!!" Good grief. Good luck at the altar, boys.

Lol I hate Martin as a character so much. Any time anything interesting happens Martin has to make it about his feelings and then use that to try to control / hurt Jon because he 'cares so much.' dude is afraid and manipulative. I kind of love that these guys have literally nothing in common except mutual trauma. Sure Jon is a douchebag too, but at least he's a douchebag with something to talk about. Martin is the avatar of garbage relationships. As always, the statement this episode was a evocative masterpiece.

What an excellent and elegant episode. I love Martin being the voice of humanity & reason. I love Jon running up against the limits of his powers and having to Think (with Melanie’s ungentle help, heh). I love the statement, which is so wonderfully balanced in being both extremely Relevant to the meta-plot and also terrifying as hell on its own terms. And I absolutely love how the last line made me audibly gasp and reel back in my seat.

First off, the climax of the statement made my flesh crawl, and I'm in a well-lit room on a college campus. That's probably one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard in a podcast. Nice job!
