Generally not, and that comment surprised me, given early Jon's comments about Americans (e.g. calliope)... and we don't usually say 'period' to mean full stop either- although both do happen a bit because of American media... It's possible the comments were written by one of RQ's American staff, although some people do use 4th July as an excuse to meet friends and drink as a summer thing. And there are Americans living in the UK who would of course celebrate, and might let off fireworks?
