I remember that tunnel bit so clearly from my childhood reading, and it still gives me the horrors, but I had no memory of which book it was from -- as soon as it was mentioned I went OH YEAH, IT'S THAT ONE ISN'T IT.

Oh, dear, that tunnel escape - I read it in my 40's, and I have to avoid ever thinking about it or I get stuck on that particular terror.

This was so enjoyable, and since the Feed series by Mira Grant was mentioned, I'd like to shout out Into the Drowning Deep by the same author. It's incredibly realistic killer mermaids and it's *amazing*. (I yell about it every chance I get because I loved it so much)

This was a wonderful ride through my childhood book reading (especially the Owl Service and the Dark is Rising). Helen has reminded me of crawling through the West Mine in Alderley Edge in Cheshire which the Earldelving in Weirdstone is based on. I am tall and it was very tight!
