Patreon Kickstarter Update #1

We just wanted to write you a short message to discuss the Kickstarter and what running a Kickstarter campaign might mean to you, our valued Patrons.
We want to make sure we include decent value for Patrons while we are developing the campaign and so are exploring options that will allow us to upgrade Kickstarter pledges for existing Patrons. This would include Patrons gaining extra benefits from higher pledges at lower pledge levels.
We are also looking at adjusting our Patreon tiers to reflect the new content such as including Kickstarter rewards, benefits, and content.
Given all this there are a few things we’d like to clarify ahead of the Kickstarter campaign:
- If, through stretch goals, we offer Kickstarter backers bonus content (e.g. bloopers or extra episodes), these will be made available to Patreon members, not just Kickstarter backers.
- The money raised for the Kickstarter is intended to provide additional budget for The Magnus Archives 2. Patreon funds will continue to be split amongst all our Rusty Quill Original shows.
- We know that some people will want to help the Kickstarter but won’t be able to donate. With that in mind, we are developing some social stretch goals based on sharing word of our Kickstarter with people. These stretch goals would reward everyone with extra content etc. if the project reaches certain social media milestones.
- Our limited-edition merch will be available throughout the crowdfunding period, so there is plenty of time before the designs disappear and we will give everyone warning before they are removed from sale.

this is all great news!! the social media milestone thing isn’t something i’ve really seen with other crowdfunding projects and i think it’s a GREAT idea, i can’t wait! xx

I am afraid that I cannot use Kickstarter in good conscience anymore, so, no matter how much I would love to support, I will not be able to crowdfund this project if you use that platform.

Allowing people to contribute to this project even if they can't afford (or are opposed to) Kickstarter is such a good idea. The social media incentive is clever and I'm happy to see it. I am very excited about tomorrow

Thank you for the clarification. I think having a temporary tier increase option or carve out to support TMA directly is a great idea. I'd prefer not to give to Kickstarter as a platform but since I plan on listening to TMA 2, I absolutely want to help support it happening.

Thank you for the update, I *was* curious about how the kickstarter and patreon would interact. Would you mind clarifying the following: Is "Kickstarter" here used as a synonym for "crowdfunding" that's going to be done via a not-yet-specified platform, or are you actually going to use the platform "Kickstarter", which has earned some criticism a few months ago for publishing their blockchain strategy? MacGuffin & Co. for example have, in December of last year, announced that they wouldn't use Kickstarter.com anymore for this reason.
I think it should be 1:30 EST! They fall back an hour, so EST is going to be GMT-4 until our time changes (I think. I just did a lot of googling to figure it out myself lol)
