Joining the chorus of “ADDITIONAL TASTEFUL ORGY SOUNDS” (… as in, adding it to my list of RQ lines/sound descriptors/summaries/content), that was a nice one (and reminded me to close the windows when listening)! Gaius is revealing himself to be more and more of a Poor Little Meow Meow – absolutely ruthless and horrible in his strategies – and I *love it*. That outburst at the end also sold really well that with actual power behind him, he has/will have the authority to rule, for better and mostly for worse. I don’t know what to say about Lepidus except for “I love him”. Characters moan when he enters the room but I just perk up with delight every time he appears, I’m so glad he had a nice party (in his old house, even!). OH MARK, the things you do for Rome… (scheming and actually listening to Gaius’s awful plans during an orgy instead of doing what/whom you could be doing). I was eyeing his relationship with Cleopatra getting warmer and warmer given the historical ones’ History, so ohohoh. Mark, you’re so screwed. (I wonder if it will lead him to think again about his own relationship with good old ~Jules~) Meanwhile, OF COURSE Charmian had to be put in an even more impossible situation ;_; So sad for her, and for her witnessing Octavia’s inability to understand how much Charmian has to lose – Octavia can act on whims, can really well expect no consequences at all for whatever she decides to do or say or act, and Quintus kept telling her to no avail, but meanwhile, Charmian’s position as Cleopatra’s spy and slave/servant has always been conditional to her loyalty and devotion, and it’s a matter of life-or-death for Charmian, something Octavia still can’t register… (Outside of the “my gf is a spy? Hot.” factor, Octavia seems to be totally misunderstanding how Charmian’s “devotion” functions: she likes Octavia, *wants to* be with her, but she *has to* serve and give Cleopatra the illusion of undying focus. But Octavia, deep into the privileges she can’t see, only notices the outer shell of Charmian prioritising someone else, and gods, it’s just even sadder for Charmian to keep being reminded of how much Octavia doesn’t totally get her (yet), isn’t it ;_; I wonder if Quintus will shake some sense into Octavia before Cleopatra does anything drastic and/or manages to weaponize it against Charmian herself ;_;). Overall, there was much more tension in Sarah Agha’s voice in this episode compared to much earlier in the series in dangerous situations, like with the Roman soldiers, I felt? Really highlighted that she doesn’t think she could trick her way out of being under Cleopatra’s control like she would in any other situation ;_;
