Omg this is so grifters bone coded
Grace 'Gengar' Soria
Oh, Alice is so scared. She sounds careless and funnyz but she's seen some shit, I swear. I just wanna hug her.
ShinyPenUnlimited
Relistening I noticed the dice!!!
ShinyPenUnlimited
But it’s not ? Wasn’t Juergen voices by Jonny’s dad?
Imogen
Tim Fearnon was masterful I want more Augustus statements please.
JazLaz325
Yes it took me until the end of this episode to notice Gwendolyn's last name
Reynard Du Maurier
Alice absolutely speaks too ominously to be ignored as a threat Or its a red herring idk
Ian Mak
I was also thinking that the merchant was an equivalent of Mikaele Salesa?
Carleigh Warsing
I also think it might be an important detail that Sam checked the box for "response" in the first episode. Not sure what it means, but I think it could be something that comes in to play when we get a real look at the "protocol".
Carleigh Warsing
I was surprised too! I think it fits well though, and Gertrude would also be an amazing addition. For a while I expected it to be Elias, but then I realized that if Gwen IS related to him she'd recognize his voice, so Jonah Magnus would need a different one, maybe his original?
Eternal Miasma
My current theory is that this is another reality, the one the fears went too at the end of the last series, so she’s basically gender swapped Elias, one of this universes differences
Carleigh Warsing
I thought the same thing- but then it hit me that if Gwen IS related to Elias she would have recognized his voice
Eternal Miasma
Was not expecting jurgen to be the 3rd voice. I thought it would be Elias
Jason Green
Just want to throw this here - your sound design constantly impresses me. The slide in and out of the digitized voice of Augustus to help the keep the audience aware of what's happening/going to happen, just absolutely love your work!!
Ariane Signalis is the Elster Signalis Fan Club and challenges you to play SIGNALIS without pointing at any of the characters an
Oh heck. I just realized, the statement-giver was compelled in the same way Jon compelled people in TMA when he talks about speaking of his whole life in candor he did not intend!!!!!
FyreFlye23
I also do not trust Alice! I mean Alice is a terrible coworker, we've all had to work with an Alice and it's miserable. There's something more, though. Something almost sinister. Unhinged.
Brandy Hammond
So good!
Ember
Listening to this, I kept thinking of the violin of Eric Zann, from Lovecraft (and also used to great effect in Charles Stross' Laundry Files series).
dipper
Yes!!
Valerie Kaplan
Or another of the same sort!
Valerie Kaplan
The voice is similar, but not the same VA; Jurgen was voiced by Paul Sims.
dipper
GRIFTERS BONE?!?!? OMG
J Burns
I do Not Trust Alice! She is absolutely up to something and I don't know what, but I do know I've been betrayed before. Also, Jurgen?? Why is Jurgen of all people the third voice? And now I'm desperately hoping for new, fourth voice. The voice of a certain former Archivist...
Martha
anyone else theorising that this is Jonah??
artimas Newton
YESSSS EATING THIS UP NOMNOMNOM
Liddy
And the Protocol is Magnusing
James Flinders
oh ho things are starting to cook now. almost time to get the red string and pin boards out again :D
James Flinders
*in harsh whisper* "BECAUSE WE WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT. AND THE GOVERNMENT LOVES SECRETS DICKHEAD" LOL
James Rule
Ok, so let's see what we have so far: The Magnus Institute is destroyed and cursed/haunted. Some government agency has taken over a similar role that the institute had been doing, but are doing it better/unethically by reading everyone's email. There is a police/military response when things get hairy called "The Magnus Protocol." Now, generally speaking, alerts, protocols, government responses get named after events when things went really bad. Almost like the people coming up with the response want to make sure to never forget the inciting incident and make absolutely sure that it never happens again. While details are lacking, I'm starting to get a bit of a clearer picture of what went down in this reality.
jox lvndrcrow
THIS WAS CRAZY! My jaw kept dropping and the violin gave me chills! this was phenomenal
MichaelNumber19
i wasn’t caught up w thé ARG. could you tell me where klaus was mentioned if it’s not too much of a bother?
Coco Boomslang
Nicely done Cole! Our own little Tiny Terror ❤️❤️❤️
Kate McKiernan
Can you please also add a suicide CW for the tutor?
Kelliwop
Grifters Bone???? Jurgen Leitners death 2.0?????? Massacre???? Lore????? Is the Magnus Protocoling????
Valerie Kaplan
Wasn’t expecting to hear from “Augustus” until probably mid-season or so! A fun surprise!
Seal
Oh my Slaughter, how I've missed you
Ocean
This was the wildest cooking dinner experience of my life
Caleb
I didn't keep up with the arg at the time but from the information I've collected about it since, I can't find anything on Starkville. What's the importance?
Jeff Miller
Thank you! Exactly what I needed
Anthony
There aren’t any breakroom scenes in this one. I don’t personally have trouble with the sound design so I can’t verify whether or not it’s the same but I hope that helps!
Jeff Miller
I'm thinking of listening to this during a long drive I'm taking this afternoon ... but if the sound is similar to Episode 3, I'd rather save it for headphones. Could someone who has listened let me know?
Megalodons Dont Bite
The transcript won’t open for me- would anyone have an tips about this
FyreFlye23
"The blood for its strings need not be your own." will go down as one of the best single lines in Magnusverse history.
Anthony
Poor Alice doesn’t know she’s a main character🥲 She really is trying so hard to keep Sam safe. Ah well...
LainyJP
I can see your point, very possible. I feel like she does genuinely want to protect Sam, whatever her motivations. And I agree 100% about Gwen. Time will tell!
Harlan Bearman
This is by far the best episode so far by a LONG shot everything in this is fucking phenomenal great job y'all
FyreFlye23
Yes! Super bully!
FyreFlye23
See I'm getting very sus vibes from Alice - Gwen is the one I'm trusting the most.
Trajan Miller
Now I'm wondering what the hell Alice has been through, what has she actually seen?
Trajan Miller
Gotta say, sometimes my guitar feels like its spiritually drawing blood from me like this guy's violin. I bought it fair and square from a shop that still exists, so I think I'm alright
LainyJP
Love the Big Sister vibes coming from Alice. She knows something is not right and is doing the Joshua Gillespie and saying "Nope" to all this. I think the real story is that in all universes, directors are usually evil.
Edith Honey
I- *what*
Kstein19
alice is so fuckin mean man :((((
SpookMouse
i do think it has to be jonah, right?? as hilarious as it would be for jon and martin to be stuck in a robot with the ghost of jurgen leitner, i just don't see how that could... work. he'd been dead for years?? although i suppose he WAS very connected to all of the powers
MarlaBothBothIsGood
I AM FUCKING YELLING ("AUGUSTUS"JUST SHOWED UP) Just finished, so adding: DIOSMIOOOO GIVING BACKSTORY TO GRIFTER'S BONE COULD HAVE GONE SOOOOOO BADLY BUT IT WENT SOSOSOSOSOSO WELL
Caleb Prince

LainyJP
I snorted out my tea!
Oleg
GRIFTERS BONE????
Astraeus
Did we just get Alfred Grifter’s backstory?
Fen
This was amazing oh my god - time to add this to my spreadsheet!
aaaah! -stro
OOOOO sound design in this is so great… ALSO JONAH MAGNUS MY BELOVED HAS RETURNED FROM THE WAR ❓
Vulture Young
I love how sure I was that Augustus was going to share Elias' voice and then OH HEY HAVE A WHOLE OTHER MYSTERY
Ransack0894
All these mysterious "computer glitches" or sourceless messages feel so sinister and calculated, like they're luring in Alice and Gwen, baiting them into getting involved. Has anyone here ever read Dionaea House? It reminds me of that. The violin feels so much like the classic Slaughter, although the strong themes of consumption are new. But this is a guest author episode, if I recall correctly, so maybe I shouldn't be looking here for clues about whether the Magnus Protocol dimension version of the Powers are different. I loved the buildup to the violinist saying the blood to feed the violin did not need to be his own. A wonderful eerie delivery. Great use of music in this episode as well.
Ransack0894
That's exactly what I was thinking! We only ever heard Elias's voice. Maybe whatever Sergei Ushanka nonsense is going on has restored Jonah's original voice?
Undeadly
so glad i finished eating before listening to this one. soooo good tho!! <3
sAZAndorable
Whoooooo!! So many things happened in here 👀 title drop!! ominous big deal plot! Augustus! That stinger!! Special shout-out to Sam Sam the music man for this one, LOVED the violin bit, that was so eerie and beautiful!
Xan

Heather
Swear the intro music sounds like a evil laugh
Ishmam
Ah! I see it now. My laptop crashed those last pages so I didn't register them at all. Thanks!
Cas D
Asdfghjkl August episode & that Gwen/Lena cliffhanger...the chills are only beginning 😱👏 also I never used to listen all the way through credits but the score is so good I couldn't not
Anthony
it should be on the last page or two of the transcript!
Possumcat
finally hearing Augustus! YAY!
Ishmam
Paul Schmidt is listed on the Patreon post as the voice of Klaus, but no mention was made in the transcript itself. For a moment, I was convinced that Tim Fearon voiced both.
Nairis Santini
Grifter's Bone vibes, huh
Steven Stouffs
Starkwell is from the ARG!
Anthony
YEAH IT WAS
Anthony
thinking soooo hard about the importance of ep4 to the original magnus... i bet we will be seeing that violin later🫢 goodness… 18th century you say……… awesome casement, augustus’ delivery was Perfect and the strings underneath the monologues each episode continue to amaze! sound design high five to all of the staff involved!! the office bickering continues to charm me as well. VERY interesting to hear alice legitimately angry. i think a lot of her laidback goofy personality is pretty obviously a facade, at least in the workplace — she seems to know more than she’s letting on, or at least to have thought about it more than she’s telling sam that he should — but it’s always a treat when it cracks that badly. gosh i can’t wait to find out more about the research sam’s been doing offscreen. also, alice receiving that notification? HMMM. something wants to push her into dogging sam’s steps, mayhaps… although i do not think this means automatically that lena didn’t get the notification AS WELL but… i have my theories about lena’s role in all this. alright… time to reset the weekly countdown! see you all next tuesday 😝
SqueakyBoo
I am going to go insane! Who is Klaus, what is the Protocol and are we getting Brutal Pipe Murder 2 Electric Boogaloo early??????!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?
DavidCoppAFeel
Bruh that's what I was thinking or maybe it's Jonah magnus
DavidCoppAFeel
Is that jurgen leitner or John's magnus's real voice?
BloodyBaroness
Blown away by this episode! Not only compelling scenes in the OIAR but also the case! Kudos to Cole, amazing!
Ishmam
Well that was utterly horrifying!/pos I'm so excited to unpack all of the new lore introduced here, because a lot of it has potential, but feels like they COULD be red herrings.
Willow Edwards
THE MUSIC WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD IN THIS EPISODE OH MY GOD !!!!
Jemma Thew
So excited to get a statement referencing my town, Alnwick!
Ace
augustus right after talking about the protocol 😬
Max
When he says "the line between musician and instrument weren't so clear" reminds me of a horror webcomic I read where a toymaker made toys/things that did the opposite of what they were meant to do eg ballet shoes meant to be worn by someone instead wore the person and would make them dance to death or a teddy bear meant to bring comfort and safety would try to kill you. Feels like it only applies to this ep tho so idk if that's what the cases are all like or if it was just this guy
Megalodons Dont Bite
Why does Augustus sound like JL
Mishiro
This one gave me chills ngl
jo
"bc the government loves secrets, ya dickhead!" alice i love you <3

Katherine McDermott (She-They)
Sike, I just missed it oops!
Helena McCoy
the battle I have to have with myself very week to wait until I can enjoy the episode on my way home vs ruining it by looking at the transcript on my lunch break
Katherine McDermott (She-They)
Is there a transcript available for this episode?
genevieve
augustus…….hi…..
Red
Getting an Augustus episode! ...I'm not concerned at all 🥲 yep
FyreFlye23
Augustus 😬 Okay can we just say the SOUND DESIGN is GORGEOUS?! The orchestra during the performance?! This just gets better and better every week. Also, week 4 where I maintain Alice is a terrible friend and co-worker.
