Tour Diary Part 6
🕑 Added 2023-08-03 14:16:04 +0000 UTCOn the 10E heading into New Orleans. Slept well, and had to pee 4 times during the night, due to drinking lots of water and tea last night, but the voice held up nicely and I'm feeling optimistic that I'm over the early tour voice hump.
San Antonio was a weird one. We played at a venue that usually hosts touring Broadway shows, so the backstage was nice but utilitarian (laundry, showers, no sofas to stretch out on...) The Majestic had two theaters, and we were in the smaller one, which wasn't used to having Rock and Roll... the sound was good for the audience but shitty for us. The crowd was generally nice, but there were a few dummies mixed in who had lots to say... During the stand up there was a heckler and I couldn't tell if he we pretending to be a heckler (like at a Neil Hamburger show) or was the real deal.... Shouting "ASSHOLE" and then later: "SOUND OF FREEDOM" and "SAVE THE CHILDREN" After all, we were in deep Texas...
I chose to keep my head down and just ride through it. Some people still don't know where I'm coming from with the music, and it's OK, but you'd think you'd do a little education before the show. Maybe people won free tickets or just know me as the dude from the Free Real Estate thing. I even had a weirdo and his girlfriend taking selfies near the front during the show, but I let it slide.
A very kind Office Hours fan delivered us a bunch of breakfast tacos from Pete's Takos (spelled THAT way, apparently) and they were DELICIOUS!
Then a few of us walked to the Alamo, which was a few minutes away, and strolled the River Walk. Vic and I went to a cowboy hat shop that looked cool, but the owner was too nosey and had too many rules about trying hats on so we left, hatless. We walked into a cute little bookstore/organic skin care/knick-knack shop run by two lovely African American women. I bought some homemade deodorant and toothpaste tablets (a little glass jar filled with pellets that you chew and then brush your teeth.) They were very nice and we had a good little chat.
Everyone's healthy and in good spirits. I love traveling with this gang. Even on an off night, we have each other and I couldn't feel more supported by everyone on this bus.

Glad the tacos were enjoyed, thanks for letting me say hello. Sorry for the strange ones, people here are weird. I was in the balcony and could see the selfies w/poses and 2 beer guy making himself comfy on the stage, then being asked to move back, then returning, repeat… anyways, loved the show, safe travels!
