I’d agree with you if this was something long term, but Cass’ Guildmaster status is very much a temporary, emergency-only thing. He’s still not nearly ready for something of this magnitude of course, but I see it as similar to an unexpected, high stakes internship. Sure, I don’t know where the story is going once this is done with (it’ll depend on what happens and how everyone deals with it), but I feel like things will wind down again significantly after this. It’s not gonna keep ramping up I don’t think - I agree that Cass should have plenty of time to grow at a slightly less frenetic pace, but I feel like he’ll get his chance to solidify everything he will no doubt learn after this - and considering this is the start of the climax for this book (and there are six total planned) there should be enough downtime following this to have Cass learn what he needs to know a bit more thoroughly.

Thank you for the chapter. It reads like a beautiful scene, with explanations and lots to think about. I was really moved during the chapter. Then I started thinking about the future and... Cass is now in a position where he doesn't have the knowledge and doesn't even have time to try and get it. He's forced to not only learn from Moore and others, he'll have to straight up accept their decisions without understanding them. If the situation is as dire as it seems, he wouldn't even have enough time to learn on the job and may become a figurehead. I don't know, I personally prefer to read about competent MCs, but the way this situation is set up, there's no chance of him becoming competent before the next attack on the city. I would have felt much better if he at least could comfortably handle his previous responsibilities at this point, but he still hasn't learned enough about crafting and construction quests. It doesn't really matter in a practical way, but feels unfinished somehow. Anyway, this chapter gave me very mixed feelings. If he doesn't get some crazy ability to study 100 times faster, things may be looking quite bad.
