Well the thing is, most on here aren't big cinephiles(look at the votes Long Goodbye and McCabe have gotten in the past). No Altman will ever win a poll unless it's an Altman poll. Maybe The Player could win a films about Hollywood or filmmaking poll. But I can't see TBR and Sam just picking an Altman to react to cause they are interested in seeing more(how long has it been since Seven Samurai? Yeah there will never be another Kurosawa on this channel either)

I would say that since 3 Women came off the wheel, it won't affect whether or not more Altman gets a shot -- I would think M*A*S*H and McCabe & Mrs. Miller and Gosford Park, and these kinds of "headliner" movies would still easily be on the list of possibilities.

ATPM had Robert Redford in it and was used by MCU fans as a Good Will indicator that Captain America The Winter Soldier was gonna be a good political thriller.

@jenm mentioned Deliverance (1972), and I'd second that. But also, I like to see Burt Reynolds' most iconic of all roles Smokey and the Bandit (1977) turn up on a future poll. The Longest Yard (1974) would be another good one of his. I also saw a couple people suggest The Warriors (1979). I really do believe you two would get a kick out of that one! A couple of Clint Eastwood deep cuts—both from 1971—I'd recommend: Play Misty for Me and The Beguiled (later remade by Sofia Coppola). A couple Paul Newman goodies: Slap Shot (1977) and The Verdict (which is from 1982, but since I'm here I thought I'd suggest it anyway. I know Sam digs legal dramas.) A couple Robert Redford goodies: Three Days of the Condor (1975) and The Candidate (1972). And if we only get one return to Robert Altman in the director's chair this year (I doubt The Long Goodbye will ever win a poll), I'd suggest Nashville (1975).

Great poll, all worthy winners, esp after Air Force One won a best of the 90s poll and Fast Times won a best of the 80s poll. Hopefully the strong showing of Pelham will ensure it gets reacted to before that horrible remake(which has Denzel and I know you've had Denzel polls). In general I hate it when remakes are reacted to before originals.

Yes definitely watch "All The President's Men" you don't get that many movies about journalism tackling real life issues that can be woven into very well crafted thrillers. It also goes back to a time when journalism was really about getting the truth out and wasn't so one sided as it has become over the decades.

I doubt the Heartbreak Kid is in any danger of winning, but I rewatched their reaction to Midnight Run a few weeks ago and seeing how mad Daniel got at Charles Grodin in that one, uh...I can only imagine him punching his chair while watching The Heartbreak Kid.

If you have not yet, you should react to 1979 movie the Warriors. It still holds up. Just to add. John Wick 4 had a nod to this movie that you will recognize, and Shaq often Quotes a line from it (Can you did it) because it is one of his favorite films. Please put it on a poll or executive decision.

Anyone who would claim 1979 isn't part of the 1970s is just plain wrong. I could hypothetically sort of understand debating whether or not, for example, 1970 is actually part of the 1970s as opposed to the last year of the 1960s, especially since the first year of any new decade is going to be the one that looks the most like the previous decade, but it just makes no sense at all to say 1979 or any other -9 year. Really, that would be the year in which whatever was happening in that decade can fully be assessed. It's the *most* that decade!

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is one of the all-time great New York movies. I love that movie so much, and every time I watch it I have David Shire's banging intro music rattling around in my head for days. Coincidentally, Shire also did the score for All the President's Men - another masterpiece I can watch once a year and never tire of.

While The Heartbreak Kid is a great movie, that one might be trouble to track down. If you are looking for another movie to poll instead, I would recommend A New Leaf (1971), which is also directed by (and even co-starring) Elaine May, and which is more widely available on paid streaming services.
