It’s outstanding, but it’s helpful to have some basic knowledge of WWII history, or specifically the end of it in terms of Germany. Not necessary, but it would make the story more meaningful. I don’t think there will ever be a better depiction of life inside Hitler’s bunker as defeat becomes inevitable. And the story comes from a remarkable woman who was there, as Hitler’s personal secretary.

So the Spike Lee-Denzel Washington remake of Kurosawa's High and Low is apparently coming out in the summer from A24, maybe this year is a good time to check out the original? It would be a shame to see the remake before the original(if the remake interests you - guessing there will be a trailer soon)

You make some good points. I was probably following a line of thought regarding what elements usually attract the largest number. City of God, not nearly so much in a quintessential “popular” poll, whereas mystical creatures … that would be a more natural attraction. I’ve never been much for official, published lists. But I am very jaded when it comes to popular polls.

Really? I wasn't aware that Brotherhood was considered that popular. City of God is #25 on imdb's top 250 which is a pretty mainstream list imo. While Brotherhood of the Wolf isn't close to the top 250. Also City of God recently had a sequel miniseries that aired on HBO max.

Interesting results so far. I’m really surprised that City of God is running so high, and that Brotherhood of the Wolf is running so low. It’s defying most popular poll trends. But one way or another, you really should react to Brotherhood at some point. It’s a story and visual feast.

I'll echo all the recommendations for 'RRR' past and present. It must be seen to be believed. 'Godzilla Minus One' (2023) The fact that you guys haven't already reacted to this is mind-boggling tbh. 'The Handmaiden' (2016) You've seen another Park Chan-wook film, 'Oldboy.' 'Lady Snowblood' (1973) QT borrowed a lot of 'Kill Bill's style from this one. 'Cinema Paradiso' (1988) Just a beautiful film. 'Wings of Desire' (1987) I finally watched this on xmas night, 2023, after decades of hearing and wondering about it. It felt like a real gift! 'The Wages of Fear' (1953) Kind of like 'Fury Road,' in that it's a very specific type of treacherous journey film, but it's more clenched-teeth than visual spectacle.

Brotherhood of the Wolf! Honestly just pulled out the DVD and watched it again. When released, it became one of the highest grossing films worldwide. It has it all: action, horror, romance. Great cinematography, solid story. Off poll choice: Diabolique (1955), a masterclass of suspense. Sam would love the murder plot and story! One of my foreign favs

I love Tampopo so much but that definitely feels like one we'll have to wait for the wheel to potentially get on the channel. Still, I would love to see you two watch Run Lola Run. Did you already see Parasite off the channel? If not I suggest adding that and Memories of Murder to your next foreign film poll, what with Bong Joon Ho's next movie coming out in theaters in March.
