It's not on your list, but American Sniper is an excellent war movie based on a true story, about Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was a Sniper who did 4 tours in Iraq.

Personally I think The Ascent by Larisa Shepito is the best WW2 film about the Eastern Front. Shepito was married to the director of Come and See.

So many great movies on this list. You can't go wrong with any of them. Come and See is probably the one that is "if you see only one war movie in your life it should be this one" - but it really does show the reality of WW2 in Eastern Europe. Utterly brutal and terrifying. Enemy at the Gates is another great Eastern Front movie (as Americans we forget that WW2 was primarily about taking Russian and Ukraine, but those British wouldn't stop being a pain in the ass). Other must-see war movies to add to your lists - Gallipolli, Breaker Morant, the original All Quiet On The Western Front (1930), and The Killing Fields.

Yeah, I've seen it on a number of "War Movie" polls of other reactors. But only a small part of the movie takes place during a war. I've never figured out why so many people think it's a "War Movie". Maybe because the one screen capture of the Redcoats is used in virtually every review / write-up of the movie.

Doctor Zhivago is in my all-time top ten. HOWEVER, I have to spoil something for your protection. There is a dead baby in it. It's not like TRAINSPOTTING. There is a woman holding what could be a ham or cheese wrapped up for we know. But it's meant to be a baby. You can't see it. So it's not traumatizing just sad. It's literally like one minute of long ass movie. I hope you do watch it someday tho. 🤗🙏🏼

FYI, Barry Lyndon is the highest ranked film on this list from the Sight and Sound poll of the Greatest Films of All Time. It's the oldest and most highly regarded poll of that nature(has been held every 10 years since 1952). Lyndon is the 2nd highest rated Kubrick on the list(after 2001)

Once The Game won the detective poll in a landslide, I think disqualifying any title based on whether it belongs in the poll went out the window. It certainly has more of a case as a war film(or war adjacent) than The Game has being anywhere near a detective movie poll.

Barry Lyndon is among my all time favorite movies but I wouldn't classify it as a war movie. Paths of Glory though, excellent film by a young Kubrick.

I would strongly recommend M.A.S.H. as a war movie, mixing comedic themes with serious ones. I would also recommend 1941, pure comedy directed by Spielberg, with John Candy, Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi, Ned Beatty, Robert Stack, and more.

"Life is Beautiful" is absolutely devastating and hilarious all at the same time. That movie is really a masterpiece of contradiction and just an amazing work of art.

I cant believe the Dirty Dozen is really winning this poll. Yes its a great war movie but in comparison to the rest of this list, I have to see its last, but thats just my opinion.

The Captain is another underrated and overlooked war film. True Story of a German officer who pretends to be a german captain to escape the war. Excellent movie!!!

Barry Lyndon isn't exactly a war movie (although, there's war in it), but you should definitely watch it! There may be movies as beautiful as Barry Lyndon, but there are no movies more beautiful than Barry Lyndon.

Alas, Come and See won't get enough love because not enough people have seen it. Truly one of, if not the best anti-war movie ever made. No heroism, no noble platitudes, no clichés. It shows war without romanticism or heroism worship. A must see flick
