One of Stephen King's inspirations for Misery was the reaction his fans had to his 1984 novel The Eyes of the Dragon. Many fans rejected The Eyes of the Dragon because it was an epic fantasy book, with virtually none of the horror that initially made his reputation. Paul Sheldon feeling chained to the Misery books by his fans was a metaphor for King's feeling chained to horror fiction. It's also a metaphor for his addiction to drugs and alcohol with Annie being the drug.

Kathy Bates is a true talent. But my fav performance of hers was in The Waterboy with Adam Sandler! It's just funny and memorable.

Very nice review, Vee. You have your thoughts during a movie and for me it's very interesting to hear them. Of course, they refer to the progress of the film and since you don't know it, you can only speculate / ramble. Also it's your way to deal with stress and tension, so everything is really fine. 😉 Referring to the movie, you're very right, the performance of Kathy Bates is outstanding as well as James Caan is a very underrated actor. Also I think they did a very good job adapting Stephen King's book for the movie. And her are some more or less scary classics, but they aren't necessarily Horror movies: Interview with the Vampire (1994); Angel Heart (1987); Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977); Alien (1979); Aliens (1986) -> it's necessary to watch Alien (1979) before. Predator (1987); Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001); Jacob's Ladder (1990); Seven (1995); The Hitcher (1986); Duel (1971); The Sixth Sense (1999), Stephen King's It (1990 or the remake from 2017), Stand by me (1986), The Crow (1994) Also a lot of movies directed by Alfred Hitchcock could fit, e.g. The Birds (1963), Frenzy (1972) . 😉 Oh, I forgot - Ghostbusters (1984) & Ghostbusters II (1989) 😊 And of course ... Scary Movie (2000) ... just a joke. 😂🤣😂

As for how the sheriff made that connection, it isn't all that unreasonable. Wilkes was in a high-profile case, and as her memory book shows, there were lots of articles about her. He's been Sheriff there for a long time and when she moved to town he would have probably recognized her from the news. And as sheriff, I'm sure he would have then made himself familiar with her case. So that's probably the reason the quote in the book caught his eye, he just didn't remember right away until he had a little triggering moment.

You make some of the weirdest jumps in logic sometimes. I can't even begin to imagine how you got "she's feeding the babies to the pigs". If she was doing that, the articles would have been about missing babies not dead babies. That's what's fun about your reactions, never knowing where you're going to go with it.

If you want to watch one of the best scary movies, obviously imo, you need to watch the Wicker Man. The original, not the poor Nicolas Cage remake. It has Christopher Lee, Saruman from LOTR, the original Equaliser, Edward Woodward, and the beautiful and talented Britt Eckland. It's so tense and suspenseful (not really much horror I would say) and I think you will be surprised at the ending. Rated 7.5 on imdb.
