Another reason Walt was mad at the diagnosis is because deep down he actually enjoys being a criminal and now he has to essentially go back to his old "boring" life :-)

Yeah :( that makes me really sad to think about.. all of the things he’s done because he thinks his life is ending, only to realize he didn’t need to do any of it. And now live with all of his choices. It’s horrible:(

I feel like his alter ego of Heisenberg is also a result of this pent up emotion, and that’s how it spills out basically forming another personality that contains so much anger and need for control 😔

Thank you for this detailed and well thought out explanation, i feel like it gives me a deeper perspective on Walt as a character and this is really sad. I feel really bad for him actually :(

If you notice, every major change hr has two reactions to, usually as Walt, then as Heidelberg. When he attacked tuco he had a panic attack in the car, followed by a moment of calm. When he gets the news that he's going to live, Walt reacts angry because he feels cheated, but Heisenberg feels like he's truly been freed, he's basically out of the shadows now and Walt is essentially still dying. Sort of a jekyll and Hyde moment

I really love the way you explained this, I do think Walt always had this in him and he lies so smoothly it only makes sense if it’s something he’s always done. We’re not only seeing how Walt transition to Heisenberg, but how is on a deeper scale which aids or are stepping stones for turning into another personality essentially

This is really sad. But it also almost feels like he enjoys it at times so I believe that’s what confused me as well - Walt was upset about being compromised, his string of lies and crimes, but Heisenberg seems to like the control, power and crimes

But to answer your question about what I think this episode was about, I think it was mainly to emphasize how he had come to terms with death because not only does he get angry when he gets the good news but it goes to the ends of the earth to show us that he has not only accepted death from the cancer but at a couple points accepted death and gave up during their struggle in the desert. He was facing a mysterious time bomb of death and also facing an immediate and brutal slow death in the desert. he had accepted it in so many ways and times, he was expecting it by the end of it all. and wasn't even granted the relief he thought he was about to get. I feel like this is one of a few turning points for Walt. He has slowly been becoming more and more Heisenberg and less and less Walt. This is one of the things that contribute to his transformation.

Walt was so upset at the end is because as you said, he had come to terms with dying. and one of the only reasons he was willing to make drugs and do all this illegal shit, and kill people and melt bodies, was because he was so positive that he was going to die. Now he knows he has to live with himself and all his decisions, the news of hearing he was going to live was almost as painful as the news he was going to die.

Krysten Ritter is a bit younger here but I think having bangs is what makes her look a little bit different from Jessica Jones. I think everybody has already nailed why Walt would be upset with this news.... after all that has happened he has to keep on living. I really like this episode because we get more fun meth montages then Walt is forced to be retrospective of everything he has done, so far....

I think Walter White has always been ambitious as well as an habitual liar his entire life. He tries to use his intelligent to manipulate situations in his favor but nothing ever works out the way he wants.... In this episode when he talks about lying to his family, it appears he's talking about more than just cooking meth, and he feels guilty. Walt seems like a high strung individual and was using his cancer as an excuse to be ambitious. With no cancer, Walt is at a crossroads because he likes the power and money that comes with cooking meth but now he doesn't have an excuse to justify it......aka a reason to break bad (haha).

Completely agree. Walt's journey up to this point has been coming to terms with the fact that he's going to die. Not only has he made peace with that, finishing the cook marks the first moment that his family would actually have enough. Being told he is going to live rips that rug out from under him, and he'll have to keep down this path that, to this point, has been full of brutal and soul-crushing decisions.

So Vee, the reason walt did the thing at the end is because he had essentially come to terms with his circumstances. He "knew" he didn't have long, so he allowed himself to become morally compromised so he could make as much money as possible and check out before he or anyone else had to live with the consequences. Now, not only does he have to sort of sit in the mess that he made, but he has to continue draining money from his family and continue getting treatment, which means he has to KEEP cooking meth and further compromising himself.

I think Walt was mad because he had the news that he was in remission and the path he took was because he was dying. When he found out he may be good, I think he felt like he had done the things that he did for no reason now and it ticked him off that he had passed the point of no return now.

Walt got mad when he saw his own face in the reflection (basically punching himself) because he committed all those crimes only because he thought he was dying. Now he has to live with what he has done, and probably keep up all his lies.

I think you're right. When I first watched this episode I also took it as he had accepted his impending death, and to have that taken away from him made him upset. Even though it was good news, to have a belief, something that you know is true, taken away from you is upsetting. Now to mention all the things he's done because he thought he was dying. Now he feels he did these things for nothing, and that's got to be upsetting too.

I think he got mad at the end partly because having all those emotions etc but never letting them out, eventually people tend to explode when bottling all that up but that's just my personal take haha.
