@ LightsCameraJake, Bryan Tuck- yes people can suggest what they want, and I can call them out for bad suggestions too, which is not "belittling them". Or do you think that theme polls shouldn't exist? I mean if V did a sports movie poll and I suggested Friday the 13th part 3 because Jason wears a hockey mask you'd be cool with that then? Or would you rightly call me out for making a non-theme suggestion? This attempted subversion of theme polls happens fairly often and I see people push back on it all the time with no one calling them gatekeeper - except when it comes to horror polls. Then you're a mean old "gatekeeper" for not letting them try to get whatever non-horror movie they want on a horror poll. If V really wanted non horror movies for this poll then why did she write this in her post "I have seen many horror movies by now (it being one of if not my favorite film genre!!) so I will be responding to comments that recommend movies I’ve already seen, just to let you know. :)" ? Sounds pretty specific to me. But hey, maybe she'll do a horror comedy poll so I can suggest something wildly inappropriate for it, like The Mist. Of course I wouldn't do that because I can follow directions.

Someone needs to gatekeep - because others try change the intent of the post. V asked for horror movies, not a bunch movies that are vaguely horror adjacent (Harvey? Really?). But say some of these movies did take up space on a horror poll where they don't belong. They would most likely lose while blocking actual horror films from a chance to win by being on the poll in the first place. And if they did win they would be a disappointment to anyone looking for actual horror films - including V. How about people stop being selfish by trying to shoehorn in movies that don't belong on theme polls. This includes any theme poll, not just horror. This happens all the time and I'm sick of it.

I here I was trying to have a normal discussion, so stop trying make it like was attacking you or something. Maybe you could have a rational discussion instead just trying to dismiss out of hand other people opinions. It's not like I was making some extreme statement, the truth is you just didn't like getting called out for trying to subvert the intent of what V was asking for. @Lights - Oh, so nothing about my comments about blind-leading-the-blind fans who literally don’t KNOW any other movies they either lived to see in theaters or “secretly” discovered on disk when someone else showed it to them, and thought it was the only one cool film ever made? And then forced an entire other culturally amnesiac generation to experience the same twelve films they knew, because You Have to Be Like Me? Yes, that does tend to be the age when any justifiable “belittling” that you’re not curious to seek out new experiences gets only hurt-snowflake reactions that we were being “mean” in pointing out facts, tribalism of “It’s OUR favorite not yours!”, or the child’s Whatabout-ism to find out why the Mean Person was Wrong, Too.

V - you might also enjoy BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA (1992) and MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN (1994), which are relatively faithful adaptations of the original novels. They both still take some liberties, but they're generally closer to the original works than most other versions. :)

Because its a patreon and people are allowed to suggest what they want. They pay money to suggest things and watch reactions. You are not the police of this community. Its annoying. You left your suggestions in a earlier comment so dont worry about others. Vee is smart enough to know a horror movie suggestion (like the vast majority that there are here) and filter out the rest for later reactions and polls by a simple IMDB search. The only person here "wrecking other peoples fun" is you by going into other people suggestions and belittling them :)

If we’re not, they’re A24 devotees who’ve become so wrapped up in the 21st cty.’s search for “Disturbing allegorical horror as social metaphor”, they try to make every human being on the planet watch Midsommar for their own perceptual awakening. Me, I’m a Val Lewton fan, and it takes a heck of a lot more to scare ME than some snooty artsy-pants jump scares. Especially when you know jump-scares were named after the one in the ‘40 “Cat People”. 😎

Why is it that every Halloween people feel the need to try and get whatever vaguely horror adjacent film they happen to like on Halloween horror polls? I can only assume they do it because they don't like horror, but why try and wreck everyone else's fun? Comedies, children's films, and action movies are not horror films, even when they have horror elements.

Can't remember if you've mentioned whether you've seen THE EXORCIST or not, but that's an easy recommendation if you're looking for classic, trendsetting horror. I also highly recommend watching the original theatrical version, rather than the extended one (sometimes called "The Version You've Never Seen" or the "Extended Director's Cut"). Sometimes they get it right the first time. :) I'm also still hoping you get a chance to check out DEATH BECOMES HER sometime. Not particularly scary, but a fun spooky comedy. :)

I second EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE. Of all the demonic possession movies that riff on the original EXORCIST, I think that's one of the best. The courtroom drama aspects make it quite interesting. :)

The Hannibal Lecter Trilogy: Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal and the prequel Red Dragon. The Craft (original): A group of high school girls start playing with magic and witchcraft and things go wrong. It’s a classic. The Guest: After a family loses their enlisted son overseas one of his friends comes to check in on them, but maybe he’s not telling the family everything he knows. Also literally takes place on Halloween. You’re Next: The best homie invasion movie of the past 15 years.

If you're taking a break from BrBa, I'd say you should check out "Haunting of Hill House". It's an amazing (10 eps) miniseries. It's scary, but heads up, it will also wreck you emotionally lol. But I do think it's a masterpiece, in my opinion at least. As far as movies go, I'd suggest: The Witch, The Wailing, Hereditary, Let The Right One In, Triangle & Coherence for some more challenging ones. Or The Conjuring, Insidious, The Shining for some more conventional ones. And Shaun Of The Dead & Happy Death Day for some more fun ones.

You gotta do Evil Dead 2! For some psychological horror i'd go with The lodge and The Lighthouse. Noroi: the curse (which is a personal fav) and Pulse (2001) for good asian horror. Attack the Block is another great but underated horror movie. It has John Boyega before his role as Finn in Star Wars. What we do in the shadows (2014) and One Cut of The Dead if you want horror comedy.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Loosely based on the "real" exorcism of Anneliese Michel (In 1960/70s Germany) IMO the barn scene is probably the best thing about it. Evil Dead/Army of Darkness series Tucker and Dale vs Evil (scare comedy) Childs Play series Any of the Nightmare on Elm Steet or Friday the 13th series, dated and campy but still fun to watch if you've never watched them. My Recommendations: -"Cloverfield" (2008) an found footage Sci fi horror drama film built on mystery and atmosphere. You would love this movie. I wont spoil what its about for you to find out while watching. -Ill also recommend the sequels. "10 Cloverfield Lane" (2016) and "Cloverfield Paradox" (2018) These are mind bending sci fi atmospheric horror mystery films built to keep you guessing until the end. Honestly would be an amazing Sci Fi horror series for you to watch for Halloween season :) -Since its another found footage film "Paranormal Activity" (2007) -Lastly "Signs" (2002) starring Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix.
