The custom tags seem to be the problem. I was using them alongside a Star Wars set that was completely untagged. Thanks!

They are not, but you are not the first to have this problem. One person fixed it by deleting all instances of the pack and redownloading it. You can also try to disable custom tags in the menu if you are using that, or add the Colorable tag back in.

Are the scifi and modern assets all intended to be bright red or is there something weird in my download?

That is not a bad idea. I could add that for future updates.

Not sure how hard much work it will be, but a good idea FA had was putting a date next to each asset pack showing when it was last updated. Might help users see what is the latest release if implemented.

They are not supposed to be zip files but dungeondraft_pack files. You need dungeondraft to use them. You can extract the png's but due to the way assets can be colored in dungeondraft they would all be red.
