Prefabs: Explanation post
🕑 Added 2021-02-12 15:45:54 +0000 UTCPrefabs are now an official part of dungeondraft! So it's time for a new explanation post.
What are prefabs?
Prefabs (short for prefabricated items) are collections of items that have been bound together and saved so you can easily place them on another map without bothering with the individual items. For example a machine or droid you assembled from individual parts. Or a set dining table. Or furnishings for a room you would like to copy and paste. You can see some examples for consoles in the pictures!
Since the prefab file only includes instructions for dungeondraft on where to place which asset, you will need the appropriate assets enabled on your map for them to work. But this also means you are free to share your own prefab creations with other patrons if you want, without violating copyright, because you are not redistributing the assets themselves!
How do I get them?
Prefabs on this patreon rarely come as a reward for color engineers and above, they are collected in the prefab archive. You can also download the attached free console set you can see in the picture or you can check out Gimmie's Droids.
How do I install them?
- 1. Prefabs are saved in dungeondraft's user folder, the same place as the thumbnails and backups. You can get there through the menu ("open user folder").
- 2. Extract the zip-file you downloaded into the prefab folder in the user folder. Keep the parent folders of the different sets, they will show up as categories in dungeondraft.
- 3. Restart Dungeondraft and your prefabs should show up in the prefab menu!
- 4. If you would like to change sizes or colors, or want to delete certain objects, you can do so by using the "Separate" button in the Select tool, otherwise the assets will stay together and you can move them as one.

These look fantastic. I had just done a spaceship that needed just that. :)
