During the turbolift discussion between Captain Pike and Saru in the turbolift regarding Saru allowing Culber and Ash to "fight it out" in the mess hall, both have valid points. HOWEVER, do you think beneath the discussion/debate:

Guess it's because its kinda how I would speak in a situation like that and I wouldn't consider myself as being defiant, so that's why I read it my way, but after thinking about it I can get how it could also be seen as such. So I get where you're coming from.
Well then he definitely was feeling SOMETHING, but you and I do part ways on how much. He seems PO'd to me - not to the point that he was gonna outright defy Pike, but enough that he wanted to throw it in his face he thought he was being dumb about this issue.

Rewatched the scene since its been a while, it's hard place it exactly thanks to the prosthetics, but I'd say maybe he felt a bit frustrated that Pike mentioned going by the book given the situation.
How would you characterize the emotion, Raymond?

My vote is also for Saru just pointing out how absurd the situation is and thus he used a unconventional solution. I won't say he's unemotional, but he's also not being defiant.
