I think you're just fine. Lower Decks is written from the perspective of people loved Star Trek growing up. I think Disco and Picard are written by people who read Memory Alpha and maybe six episodes of TNG.

I didn't want to go too nerd rage in the reply, but YES! It's like when you are realllllly hungry and piece of beef jerky tastes like filet mignon. I haven't caught up on the second half of R&M, but most people I talked to said ot was ok, but not as good as the first half. You have sparked my curiosity to finish it up though. That episode you mentioned sounds pretty awful it that is what they are implying....

Yeah, Rick and Morty got too dark for me recently (the episode where he keeps resetting reality to try different things it’s implied that Morty might be a rapist? I always knew he was evil, but still...) I really like the alien spin off Solar Opposites, which might explain why I liked Lower decks since it’s the same creator. It’s possible that my bar has been set so low because of shitty Trek that this seems better than it actually is, but for now i’ll take it😊😀

A few of the jokes hit, but otherwise its just Rick and Morty with a Star Trek skin on top of it. The fun of Rick and Morty for me was satirizing shows like Star Trek. Now that we are actually in-universe, they are stuck with the rules of that universe, which don't mesh with that style of comedy, unless they break from cannon. I wonder which route they will go...Sigh....

Regarding Fist full of Datas, Andy's comment about Troi's weird accent reminded me of one of my favorite nights of "Star Drek" at the Meltdown with Matt, Kumail, and special guest Tom Lennon. Tom immediately seized on all the weird choices people were making and reenacted them as a PA for Patrick Stewart. "Uh, Patrick, do we want to try that again? Because she didn't sound like an alien or a cowboy. No? Ok, moving on!" So many weird moments in this episode. I wonder if that's because apparently Braga and Stewart were so unfamiliar with westerns that they were watching one or two movies a night during production and come in with "new ideas!" Love the show.

So I just watched some Lower Decks... And I enjoyed it? Is that possible?! After all the nonsense of Discovery and Picard, is it possible that the nim-noes in charge of Trek have actually done something right?! I feel so confused right now😓
