Agreed - as a born and bred southerner, the food aspect is very correct. Even if they get the accent and goofiness wrong, doesn't mean the food is not a true thing.
Just because it's cliché doesn't mean it doesn't taste good
As someone who loves my Granny's fried catfish and sweet tee, they get at least part of being southern right.

Fried catfish. Gross. How many more episodes until Trip talks about his nana’s grits or sweet tea? He’s written like the writers imagine what southerners are like with never having met one.
