Maybe engineering is actually the safest place on the ship to do risky experiments because it has the strongest force fields to protect the warp core, it’s also the closest to the power supply. In other parts of the ship an explosion might not be contained and result in significant damage. This is my new head canon for why Enterprise and Voyager love to experiment in Engineering.
There hasn't been much real astronomy content lately, so I'm still stuck on The Chase. Four billion years ago, the ancient aliens spread their DNA containing snippets of computer code that could be collected to display a recording. But why would all of the pieces of the puzzle be found in or near Federation Space? They must have spread it redundantly throughout the galaxy, and only a subset were needed to get the message. But it's worse than that. The galaxy rotates such that it takes Sol about 230 Million years to orbit once around the center, which means it had orbited 17 times since the original seeding. But Federation Space is apparently about 8,000 light years across, and if we take that to be a sphere centered on Sol, that means the part nearest the galactic center has orbited 20 times, while the outermost part has only orbited 15 times. So what we now call Federation Space consists of stars that - four billion years ago - had been spread throughout the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta quadrants. Which at least means that the Progenitor race didn’t have to cross the galaxy to spread their message - the rotating galaxy would spread it for them. Also, the Borg probably knew about the Progenitors a long time ago, from having all those DNA samples in the database of the Collective. Then again, they probably didn't care.
