Catching up slowly... Cordelia's "spank your inner moppet" became a catchphrase for a while. She gets some of the best lines.

It always kind of bothers me that’s literally never brought up again. Like he outright threatened to murder Buffy and no one ever talks about it. Seasons 1-3 (especially 3) Xander really is insufferable

Didn't like Xander telling Buffy he would kill her. Xander had a right to be angry but his words showed Xander has issues of his own.

I'm glad you realize you can't please everyone. Reactors that have unpopular opinions are usually my favorites because it means for certain they are genuine opinions. Also, pause away. Even when I watch stuff in person my preference is I'll happily pause as many times as someone wants to talk.

She was offered the role of Cordilia and asked to come back to audition for the role of Buffy. The role of Cordilia first went to an actress I won't name because it could be a spoiler at this time but she backed out because of contractual obligations.

Hi, OG fan here. :-) I caught "Welcome to the Hellmouth"/"The Harvest" on its debut broadcast while I was home from school on spring break... and then went back to college, in an area that didn't have an over-the-air WB Network affiliate. And while, up through the first episode of Season 4, WGN's national feed on cable was the WB Network, the cable company where I was going to school had WGN assigned to one of the two stations that were blacked out on campus in favor of the school's closed circuit system. So I didn't see ANOTHER episode of Buffy until the end of the semester, when "The Puppet Show" was the first episode to air after I got back home. To answer your question... yes, Buffy had already become a bit of a pop culture phenomenon by the time Season 1 ended. Season 2 definitely kicked things into an even higher gear with the public, but there was already a massive buzz for the show.

That said, the majority of her stunt work was done by the great Sophia Crawford. Crawford, along with husband and lead Stunt Coordinator (and frequent Angel stand-in) Jeff Pruitt, really set this shows fighting scenes apart from and above other shows of its time.

While season one did have a complete arc and a definitive ending, in many ways this episode also serves - as much as a beginning to a new story arc - as a resolution to the first season. And I think that kind of balancing act is pretty impressive. It’s a continuation of the first season as well as a resolution to those events as well as the start of new storylines all while deftly and somewhat subtly deepening the emotional core of the show and it’s characters.

Editing to open with: Welcome back Cass! Looking forward to going on the journey that is season two with you. Overall, I think this is a pretty strong start to the second season (incidentally this was the first episode I ever saw). “When She Was Bad” didn’t need to go as hard as it did. We could’ve had a simple monster of the week on the first day of the school year to settle us back into things, but the writers chose to take a different route which to me is indicative of what the show is, wants to be, and will become...
