NOTE: We both had the opinion that since this was the actually rare new Trek TNC we were less acidic about, and because this is a bye week for TNG in preparation for the May 23rd finale, we should kick this episode out to the enlisted folks on the main feed. From here on out, it's all Patreon!

Agreed about the particle physics line. I mean, you can dig up strange rocks that glow in the dark, but you can’t build a bomb out of it unless you know what the important bits are and how to centrifuge them out from the rest. I don’t think that’s trial-and-error stuff. (And antimatter even less so.)
I like Ortegas’s smirking. Pilots are supposed to be cocky and she seems right on point. I just finished the second episode and Ortegas is playing right into how most flyboys are portrayed.
Overall I like the potential of this series to be more like the Star Trek we’re used to. Matt is right, Ortegas too smirky in the first episode. Spock reminded me of a GI Joe with the deep voice and buff physique. I’ll get used to it, just a different characterization from the previous Spocks. Also the warp bomb was silly. It’s possible a nuclear bomb was invented before particle physics was discovered?! That line made me lol Ferengi rule of acquisition #289 - If you don’t find your captain riding a horse, bearded in the wilderness... you’re a sucker
