Stamets "and now: science!" [I am Erica's dry heave] This show is a compost heap of unearned overemotive struggles and scripting. I rewatched some SMG scenes from Walking Dead and she was confident; in STD she's been told to whisperspeak 75% of her lines to show emotion and struggle and it comes across as weak. Listen to her lines they are almost always partially whiapers. As the closest center to the show, it makes the show weak. Then you throw in Tilly, Stamets, Gray, sometimes Book, and even Zora! and it's a wimp fest. I suspect they're trying to extrapolate into a kinder gentler future, but STTNG did it with better balance, Picard started firm and direct and you learn his struggles later in the show. They have all this great CGI and camera technology and some good stories, but it's ruined week in week out by this constant emotionality.
