Thank you for pointing that out Hunter. Jan must be holding the sinkhole in reserve for something big down the track.

That's a nice collection of BEWARE signs the Sheriff has had put up at the gate. However I see among the better known dangers of Vale Valley there's a sign about sinkholes. I don't remember sinkholes ever being a problem before so I have to wonder if this isn't a hint about future shenanigans.
