Hel is a bit more evil than Locke I would guess will is making a new character so he can pave his own road and not just copy

With Locke being female and a child of Loki, I was thinking that she might be Hel. Especially after she animated a corpse and then asked to keep it for later use. Also, didn't Locke mention bringing back someone from the dead at one point?

Loki has been female in several tales, but too obvious. Based on behavior (the voice becoming crazed every time a new harem gave an oath) the only Norse goddess that fits is Var (goddess of oaths between man and women). But she isn’t linked to Odin in any story I’ve read. She did officiate a Thor wedding though. What I don’t know is if we have to stick to the Norse pantheon (or roman/greek based on the other veil verse books).. every pantheon has a trickster and half are female... there is even a female coyote. The real trickster here is Arand though since I’ll have to wait through three (or more) series’ books before I can validate my real suspicion. (Edit) I don’t have the patience to wait.. I have 3 personal picks. The one I want most is Decima (Lachesis) known as one of the Fates.. since (she) keeps calling Ash "Chosen One" but all the other characters know him as a "Fated One". Choice two would be Morigan (Celtic goddess of Fate).. I might be blind though restricting my goddesses to those of Fate and trickery (lies). For the next year though I'll be rooting for Decima!

Athena is a virgin goddess in mythology. Not saying a book can’t bend that, but it would be pretty bizarre. And I don’t think Locke is a virgin goddess, I think trickster or fertility is more likely.

Ok, I agree with John maybe not Aphrodite, but what about Athena with the knowledge from the hall?

While I think Locke is a goddess, I am guessing that for story reasons it won’t be either Greek, Roman (basically the same Greek), or Norse. If I was guessing a love goddess, I would go with Ishtar. More powerful, less well known, and better divine domains to play with than Aphrodite. Also, if it’s Aphrodite, I would have expected more direct references to Water powers for Ash given her mythology.

I think Locke is Aphrodite personally....just fits the character very well

Good book. Can't wait for the next one. Gave a big groan at the gender swap. It was a little disappointing to lose one of the very few male characters in the book that were not bad guys, but whatever. Still really good.

Woahhhhh so Locke is female!!! and apparently a chosen one from Locke herself. Not just like some nickname that people use like fated one. I’m guessing that Locke is some goddess and she chose Ashley to pass on a mantle to or some other thing. Big shocker in the last line.

The whole asshole thing play with your harem seemed so similar to runner...how can these beings continue to exist after they died? Seems like grand ma was able to continue on in the Jade statues too. Hmmmm.

So does anybody else think that it's possible that Locke is Loki? Especially with that last line about him being a trickster? Cause one of lokis other names in mythology is loke which is only a letter off....

No one has mentioned anything about Locke possibly being runner, trickster possibly being Amelia, and similarities of the wraith to Creep.

Only other criticism I have is that Even through all the chapters and rereading the whole book it is unbearably difficult to figure out who his "active" harem members are. I think its only Moira and Mei but I know I'm wrong. The fade to black or even lack of lead up to those situations makes finding that out very difficult. It's a little jarring when the emphasis from the last book was all about building those relationships to a point of fruition.

I really wish we would have seen Ash and the women’s advancement into being a mortal refiners. Something to look forward to in the next book.

I really enjoyed this story a lot. My only real feedback is it would be nice if there was more about his progression and training like in the first novel (at least that's how i remember it). Great story though. Are you planning to make this a long running series?
