Thing to note, range in this context does not mean how far they can reach but the distance the stand can move from its owner. also, from my understanding, how it works is that Jonathan's body emits some kind of signal to his relatives so they know where Dio always is, and Dio himself uses Jonathan's stand that looks like hermit purple to see where they are shown earlier. Sorry if that's convoluted it is what it is.

The "your stand cant fight what you cant see" is a Polnareff specific issue. Theres some other stand users with the same limitation, but most can fight what the user cant see
